In the territory of the Republic of Croatia, not a single airport is connected to the railway infrastructure, which is a limiting factor for the further development of air cargo transport. The traffic network within the catchment area of Franjo Tudman Airport in Zagreb is not sufficiently interconnected, and therefore the implementation of the rules of the single market within the transport sectors is uneven. This paper aims to investigate the factors of intermodality of air transport and other modes of transport, focusing on cases of infrastructure integration in order to improve transport connectivity. The research analysed several airports where increase in cargo traffic was influenced by the expanding capacities and connectivity at the airport. By calculating the coefficient of utilisation of the intermodal surfaces of the reference airports, it was determined that the increase of these capacities does not necessarily lead to a significant increase in air cargo transport. However, due to estimates of the global growth of air cargo transport, an adequate and modernised infrastructure gives an advantage of better positioning in the transport market compared to those airports that do not have such resources. Based on the obtained results and increased investment to improve rail speeds and intermodal accessibility, the modular approach of expanding the infrastructure, through monitoring of cargo transport utilisation coefficient, is considered sustainable.

Przedstawione opracowanie zawiera treści związane z transportem frachtu lotniczego. Celem artykułu jest wskazanie możliwości zwiększenia wykorzystania przestrzeni ładunkowej samolotów transportowych dzięki odpowiedniemu doborowi ULD (Unit Load Devices). W opracowaniu poszczególnych elementów rozważanego zagadnienia zostały zastosowane metody: dedukcji, analiza dokumentów, metody matematyczne oraz modelowanie opisowe. W części pierwszej artykułu została przedstawiona charakterystyka ULD, w części drugiej zaprezentowano wpływ doboru ULD na wykorzystanie przestrzeni ładunkowej samolotów transportowych.

The presented study touches upon the issue connected with the transport of air cargo. The aim of the article is showing the possibilities of increasing the use of cargo area of cargo planes thanks to proper choice of ULD (Unit Load Devices). In the development of particular elements of the considered issue the following methods have been used: deduction, the analysis of documents, mathematical methods and descriptive modelling. In the first part of the article the author presents the characteristics of ULD, in the second part the influence of choice of ULD on the use of cargo area of cargo planes has been presented.

Towary przewożone transportem lotniczym najczęściej są przedmiotami wymagającymi specjalnej obsługi, z którą wiążą się, dopasowane do potrzeb konkretnego typu przesyłek, technologie pakowania, przechowywania oraz przewozu. Jest to bardzo istotny dział, który podlega wielu restrykcjom, przepisom i spełnieniu szczególnych standardów. Do celów przewozowych zastosowania mają specjalne opakowania. Przedstawiono problematykę załadunku frachtu lotniczego.

The article presents the characteristics of issues related to transportation, packaging and closing packages transported by air. Air freight transported by aircraft are usually items that require special handling, which involves suited for a particular type of technology packages packaging, storage and transport. This is a very important section, which is subject to many restrictions, regulations, and meet specific standards. For the purposes of the application have a special transportation container. Presents the issue of loading problems of air freight.
