Purpose: The aim of the research was to determine the most favourable fluoropolymer coatings, deposited on the surface of aluminium moulds, which will be used to share improvements in automotive sectors. Design/methodology/approach: The paper presents the results of the coatings thickness and surface roughness measurements, AFM analysis, contact angle measurements and surface free energy calculation, wear test and adhesion force measurement of three fluoropolymer coatings. Findings: On the basis of the investigation, it can be stated that the properties of the tested coating and their adhesion to the aluminium substrate are different. Based on the obtained results it can be concluded that the coating named Coat_134 was characterized by the optimum properties - well anti-adhesion properties and good mechanical properties. Research limitations/implications: Coating must be applied on the surface of injection tools, with complex shape and wide range of dimensions. Practical implications: Injection moulds for polyurethane foam, reduction of release agent consumption. Originality/value: The paper presents comparative research of fluoropolymer coatings in order to determinate adhesion to polyurethane foam with low density.

W celu porównania właściwości badanych powłok w stosunku do innych materiałów wykonano również testy typowej taśmy teflonowej i materiału Thortape firmy Thordon. Próby prowadzono w warunkach smarowania wodą oraz na sucho. Na podstawie analizy wyników wyłoniono trzy powłoki do potencjalnego zastosowania w łożyskach foliowych smarowanych wodą.

This paper presents the results of wear testing of several commercially available fluoropolymer and anti-friction coatings with the potential application in water-lubricated foil bearings. The tests were performed in a flat conformal configuration against steel counterparts in the PT-3 tribometer available at the Machine Design and Maintenance Technology Department, Gdańsk University of Technology. In order to compare the tested coatings with other more common materials the tests were also conducted using a typical Teflon tape as well as Thortape made by Thordon. The tests were conducted in dry and in water environments. Three coatings were chosen for potential application in water-lubricated foil bearings.

'Esfil' endoprosthetic meshes made of polypropylene monofilaments, 'Eslan' made of lavsan multifilaments and 'Ftorex' made of lavsan multifilaments with waterproofing fluoropolymer coating have been developed and manufactured for the plasty of soft supporting tissues after tumour resection and herniotomies, by damage to the abdominal wall and the diaphragm and in other surgical procedures. 'Esfil' polypropylene endoprostheses are biologically inert and resist the action of tissue fluids. The hydrophoby and solidity of the threads prevent the meshes from becoming infected. Prompt spreading of the fibroblasts along the filaments promotes the reparation of soft tissues. The 'Eslan' meshes are substantially softer and can be used when so-called 'gentle' implants are required. However, the capillarity of lavsan filaments may cause wound infections. The 'Ftorex' prostheses do not suffer from this disadvantage, due to impregnation of the pores between multifilaments with fluoropolymer. At the same time, the manipulation properties of the prostheses remain stable and their biocompatibility and bioresistance increase. Physico-mechanical, medical, biological and clinical tests allowed us to determine the optimal knitting structures of the endoprostheses we developed.
