Chitosan (CS) is widely investigated due to its good film forming property. Various methods of preparation of chitosan have been reported over the years. Generally, treatment of chitin with alkali leads to N-deacetylation and the formation of chitosan. Both chitin and chitosan as polysaccharides refer to families of partially substituted polysaccharides. Thanks to many modifications that can be applied to chitosan, e.g. combining with drugs, fluoroorganic compounds, nerve stem cells, and connecting with other biopolymers, this material has many medical applications and still seems to be very promising in the future. Chitosan and chitin as many other biopolymers are widely used in biomaterials science. Biopolymers are biocompatible, biodegradable and non-toxic for the human body.
