This paper presents the results of applying ennobled solid biomass via mechanical compaction or torrefaction as fuel for ships, in terms of fire safety, environmental protection, the increase in liquid fuel prices and the dwindling resources of crude oil. The object of investigation is a ship of the ro-pax ferry type, with low cruising range, which is intended for service on the Baltic Sea. The ship’s power system is discussed and the results of calculations of the thermal cycle for a steam turbine power plant are presented. We present a simplified comparative analysis of a fuel bunker for a ship with a power plant including biomass fired boilers, and for a ship with a conventional solution of a motor power plant supplied by ultra-low sulphur fuel originating from crude oil. The advantages of applying a fluidised bed biomass fired boiler are highlighted, and selected results from tests of this boiler are presented. In addition, we assess potential fire hazards on the ship resulting from the storage and transport of pellets, and from pellets after torrefaction.

Zreferowano badania modelowe nad detekcją nieszczelności kotłów fluidalnych z wykorzystaniem danych z archiwum. Modelowanie prowadzono w przyborniku Fuzzy Logic pakietu Matlab. Omówiono dwa podejścia do rozwiązania problemu. W pierwszym - opracowano modele rozmyto-neuronowe typu Takagi-Sugeno-Kanga (TSK) 4 zmiennych procesowych o dużej wrażliwości na przeciek. Uśrednione residua tych zmiennych, w przesuwnym oknie czasowym, pozwoliły wykryć 7 z 8 rozważanych przypadków nieszczelności. Oceniono długość okna i uzyskane wyprzedzenie detekcji względem wyłączenia bloku. Następnie opracowano i przetestowano model awarii o binarnym wyjściu. Równoległe wykorzystanie opracowanych modeli pozwoliło na wykrycie z kilkudniowym wyprzedzeniem wszystkich analizowanych awarii, potwierdzając przydatność modeli TSK w ważnym zadaniu eksploatacyjnym. Wskazano dalsze kierunki prac.

The research results into leak detection in a fluidised bed boiler are presented. The studies took advantage of the historical data from DCS in the professional power plant. Models of neuro-fuzzy Takagi-Sugeno-Kanga (TSK) type were built and tested in the Fuzzy Toolbox of Matlab. The roots of boiler outage (in water-steam pressure system and aside from this system) are indicated. The two approaches to leak detection task are described. In the first, the models of the 4 process variables sensitive to leakage were built. The residues of these models were evaluated in a moving time window. The length of the time window and the advance of leakage detection are discussed. Next, the model the TSK of the boiler faults with binary output was built and tested. Training data was collected for 3 cases of raised outage (models output - 1) and the normal work of installation (models output - 0). The parallel usage of proposed TSK models provided a successful detection of all studied fault cases a few days in advance. This has confirmed the suitability of the fuzzy neural models in an important exploitation task.

The article presents the results of the analysis of the possibilities of the application of the solid biomass in the form of pellets as the fuel for ships in consideration of the environment protection as well as due to increase of the liquid fuel prices and decreasing resources of the crude oil. As the object of investigation a ship of minor cruising range of river – sea type has been assumed, chiefly intended for the service on the Baltic Sea. The ship’s power system solution has been discussed. A simplified comparative analysis of the fuel costs for a ship with power plant including biomass fired boilers and a ship with the conventional solution of the motor power plant supplied by Diesel oil has been demonstrated. The advantage of the application of the fluidised bed biomass fired boiler has been indicated and the research trends have been presented.

The article presents the results of the experimental research of the heating cylindrical surface location influence on the local heat transfer coefficients in the bubbling fluidised bed in the physical model of the marine fluidised bed boiler. A particular feature of this boiler model is positioning it in a kind of cradle simulating ship’s motion on sinusoidal type regular wave. The heating surface is located in the traditional ship’s centre line or in her midship section. The testing has been conducted in the conditions where the fluidising column remained motionless while being at the same time deflected from the vertical by a constant angle and in the conditions of continuous oscillating movement. In the effect there has been obtained the distribution of the heat transfer local coefficient values in the fluidised bed in three points located at the diameter of the column at a certain distance from the separating grid with various locations of the heating surface. The research has indicated that column oscillations contribute to the increase of the bubbling fluidised bed local heat transfer coefficients, at the parallel positioning towards ship’s centre line. The further results of research may provide the grounds to formulate guidelines for designing the shipboard fluidised bed boilers.

The paper is focused on study of the redistribution of trace elements between bottom ash, fly ash and emissions at two Czech fluidised-bed power stations, where bituminous coal and lignite were combusted at two boiler outputs. Theoretically calculated amounts of the elements released into atmosphere were compared with emission limits.

Przedstawiono zagadnienia dystrybucji pierwiastków śladowych do popiołu lotnego, dennego i emitowanego do atmosfery w dwu czeskich elektrowniach z kotłami z cyrkulacyjną warstwą fluidalną. Spalano węgle kamienne i brunatne. Obliczone teoretycznie ilości emitowanych pierwiastków porównano z limitami emisji.

W opracowaniu przedstawiono problematyką deformacji i oceny stanu wytężenia konstrukcji komory paleniskowej kotła fluidalnego. W tym celu opracowano i zainstalowano autorski system diagnostyczny zawierający elementy do pomiaru przemieszczeń komory paleniskowej, odkształceń cięgien oraz słupów wspierających konstrukcją komory paleniskowej. W skład systemu diagnostycznego wchodzą również serwer magistrali, komputer akwizycji danych pomiarowych oraz oprogramowanie niezbędne do akwizycji danych pomiarowych i wizualizacji danych na komputerze użytkownika końcowego. Zaprezentowano przykładowe dane pomiarowe oraz ich analizę, w postaci wyników obliczeń wytrzymałościowych komory paleniskowej z zastosowaniem metody elementów skończonych.

The recent work presents the issue of deformation and effort state evaluation of the power boiler's furnace chamber structure. For that purpose the diagnostic system that consists elements for furnace chamber's displacement measurement; rod and supporting columns of furnace chamber strain. The measuring system includes: measuring cards, measuring gauges, power supply equipment, a bus server, a measurement data acquisition computer, measurement data acquisition server software and software for data visualization on the I end user's computer. The measurement data instances and it's analysis in form of strength computation results of furnace chamber with the use of Finite Element Method are presented in the study.
