The current situation in the commodities market has forced suppliers to change their ways of satisfying customer needs. The supply chain aims to deliver raw materials, semi-finished products and finished products to the right place at the right time, incurring the lowest costs. Therefore, high-quality transport services have become indispensable in competing with other entities, enterprises are guided by the timeliness of deliveries in the Just-in-Time and Door-to-Door systems, and the costs incurred. Hence, to ensure that the pursued actions are implemented effectively, it is imperative to apply a process strategy comprising a characteristic component of the transport process management that would have a significant impact on the improvement of the services provided. In this paper, the authors conducted research on a real object of cargo transport on fixed routes and established a concept of streamlining the transport processes carried out at a company. The improvement concept proposed by the authors permits the minimization of the time of loading operations on routes related to a specific load. The result is a reduced total time of cargo transport, which offers the possibility of taking more orders at the studied company.

W artykule przedstawiono projekt systemu informatycznego wspomagającego zarządzanie flotą autobusów. Utrzymanie wysokiej pozycji na rynku jest dla firm transportowych priorytetem. Nie jest jednak możliwe bez świadczenia wysokiej jakości usług, sprawnej komunikacji, redukcji kosztów i zapewnienia wysokiego poziomu bezpieczeństwa. Wszystkie te obszary muszą być wspomagane przez system informatyczny. W artykule przedstawiono wymagania jakie musi spełnić taki system oraz zaproponowano jego koncepcję. Szczególny nacisk położono na aspekt bezpieczeństwa i niezawodności systemu.

Paper discusses a project of a system to support bus fleet management. Such a system is necessary to keep high position on market. A lack of complex solution available made us to design a new safe system from scratch. The paper analyses the transport firms needs and defines system functionality necessary to support efficiently a fleet of buses. The design is focused on IT system security and reliability.

Transportation is an inseparable part of the supply chain, with a key role in product distribution. This role is highlighted when ratio of “the cost of transportation” to “the value of goods” such as cement is significant. Iran has recently become one of the main centers of cement production in the world. However, transportation is the most important challenge in cement distribution because of weak structure of the transportation fleet and its independent action. Independence of and lack of commitment on the part of transportation fleets to cement companies as well as lack of timely delivery due to shortage of transportation in some routes and seasons lead to customers` dissatisfaction and even market loss or lack of market development. One of the significant differences between the transportation system in Iran and that in developed countries is lack of complete productivity of the transportation fleet. It means that trucks are driver-based in Iran. This paper introduces a model considering some issues such as driver-based trucks, size of the transportation fleet based on the number of active trucks, and demand priorities in the cement company. Taking the relation between the number of active trucks and the cement company into account, this model assigns weekly demands to the transportation fleet. It also tries to minimize the delay to respond to demands and increases the efficiency of the transportation fleet. Finally, this current condition-based model is compared with two other models including “no constraints on different routes of trucks” as well as single-route model for trucks.

W artykule opisano jak duże znaczenie ma wdrożenie do przedsiębiorstwa z branży transportowej innowacyjnego projektu. Obecnie wszystkie organizacje, które chcą uzyskać przewagę konkurencyjną muszą realizować nowatorskie przedsięwzięcia, które pozwolą im utrzymać istotny udział w rynku. Nieustanny rozwój technologii, rosnące oczekiwania konsumentów oraz postępująca globalizacja powodują, że proces zarządzania flotą staje się wyzwaniem dla wielu organizacji. Okazuje się bowiem, że samo pozyskanie intratnych zleceń nie zapewni przedsiębiorstwom gwarancji zachowania dużego udziału w rynku na długie lata. Niezwykle ważne jest właściwe dbanie o posiadane zasoby i odpowiednie nimi zarządzanie. W badanym przedsiębiorstwie za innowacyjny projekt uznano wdrożenie rozwiązania telematycznego. Zarząd organizacji zdecydował się na opracowanie i zaimplementowanie systemu zarządzania flotą pojazdów. Uzyskane w trakcie badania wyniki jednoznacznie wskazały, że w tej firmie zaimplementowanie innowacyjnego rozwiązania przyniosło zdecydowane korzyści. W trakcie wdrażania projektu pojawiły się również pewne bariery, które jednak nie okazały się być istotne i znacząco nie wpłynęły na powodzenie przedsięwzięcia.

The article describes the importance of the implementation of an innovative project for the transport company. Today, all organizations that want to gain a competitive advantage need to realize innovative projects that will allow them to maintain a significant market share. Continuous development of technology, increasing expectations of consumers and advanced globalization cause the process of fleet management is a challenge for many organizations. It turns out that the acquisition of orders does not provide guarantees to companies maintain a large market share for years to come. Extremely important it is to take care of their resources and appropriate management of them. In the analyzed company innovative project was the implementation of telematics solutions. The organization's management has decided to develop and implement a system of fleet management. The results clearly showed that the company implement innovative solutions brought significant benefits. During the project implementation there were also some barriers, but have not proved to be relevant and does not significantly affect the success of the project.

W artykule zostały przybliżone parametry, dotyczące taboru autobusowego, jaki był wykorzystywany w publicznym transporcie zbiorowym trzech miast wojewódzkich, tj. Łodzi, Poznania i Wrocławia na przestrzeni lat 2000 - 2014. Aby odzwierciedlić poziom jego eksploatacji autorzy zaprezentowali wskaźniki, odnoszące się do stanu inwentarzowego autobusów miejskich (w tym także do ich przystosowania do przewozu osób niepełnosprawnych), zakupów i kasacji pojazdów, ich średniego wieku czy też liczby miejsc w wozach.

Article concerns parameters that pertain to urban bus fleet used in public transport in 3 capitals of voivodeship: Łodź, Poznań, Wrocław over the period of 2000-2014. In order to illustrate the level of exploitation of fleet, authors of this article have presented indicators of condition of buses (in addition, their adjustment to transporting the disabled), purchase and scrapping of the vehicles, their average age and capacity.
