The Warta River near Poznań (West Poland) represents a meandering lowland river modified by hydro-engineering projects. Recently, two large floods occurred during the summer of 2010 and the winter of 2011. Rapid response surveys were conducted to document erosion and sedimentary records of the floods (spatial extent, grain size, composition, grain microtextures). Follow-up studies, which were conducted during the two years after the floods, assessed postdepositional changes in the flood deposits. A thick sand layer formed that ranged from an average of 10–15 cm (summer) to 30–35 cm (winter), building natural levees, side bars and crevasse splays. The sand layers consisted of fine- and medium-grained sands that were well-sorted, fine skewed and sourced from the river channel. The longer but smaller winter flood produced thicker and coarser deposits at different sites compared with the summer flood. An organic-rich mud layer and algal mats, which were short-existing, were also detected on the floodplain. The study proved that the flood record on engineered rivers may be only in the sand bodies near the river channel and their preservation is mainly controlled by their thickness. A single site may not record all floods, as particular events tend to leave deposits in various places.

A distinct zonality as shown in the occurrence of trace elements accumulated in the flood facies of the Vistula River between Annopol and Gołąb. Their amount may be linked with the character and dynamics of river flow in its particular stretches because the nature of the fluvial processes influences on the lithological composition of deposits. Thus the content of these elements in the deposits is related to the geomorphologic conditions of the valley evolution, such as the occurrence of gorge zones and zones with free channel development. The highest concentrations have been noted in flood deposits occurring as intercalations within the channel facies and deposited in the widest parts of the river valley. The lowest concentrations of the trace elements have been observed in the gorge zones of the valley. These are places where the flow is most dynamic, enabling only the formation of low and medium cohesive silty flood deposits with low contents of organic matter, iron oxides and calcium carbonate.

Rich and differentiated mollusc thanatocoenoses have been found in flood deposits in valleys crossing southern and northern margins of the Beskid Mały Range and its foothills. They are composed of 57 species of land snails and 7 of aquatic molluscs. Composition and structure of thanatocoenoses corresponds with type of environment in the surrounding catchment areas. Snails inhabiting valley bottoms, preferring shadowy or partly shadowy habitats, are the main components. During floods, mollusc shells were transported over a short distance only.

Przedmiotem opracowania jest tanatocenoza muszlowa znaleziona w odsypie powodziowym Białej Przemszy w Golczowicach koło Wolbromia. W osadach glifu krewasowego, który powstał w rezultacie przerwania wału przykorytowego w czasie powodzi w lipcu 1997, występowały skorupki mięczaków lądowych i słodkowodnych.

A rich molluscan thanatocoenosis was found in the flood deposits of the Biała Przemsza river in Golczowice near Wolbrom. The mentioned sediments were accumulated during the flood in July 1997. Death assemblages of molluscs have been studied using standard methods of malacological analysis. Thanatocoenosis correspond with malacofauna living in the surrounding part of the Biała Przemsza river valley. It indicate, that during flood molluscan shells are transported over the short distance from alimentation points
