At present, the speed of production and its complexity increases with each passing year due to the shorter product life cycle and competition in the global market. This trend is also observed in the machine-building industry, therefore, in order to ensure the competitiveness of enterprises and reduce the cost of production, it is necessary to intensify production. This is especially true in the machining of complex parts that require a great number of setups, and technological equipment. The problem-oriented analysis of complex parts was carried out, the parts classification was structured and developed according to the design and technological features. This made it possible to offer advanced manufacturing processes for complex parts like levers, forks, and connecting rods. The flexible fixtures for specified complex parts were developed. The effectiveness of the proposed manufacturing processes, as compared with the typical ones, provides significant improvement in the production.

In the article the experimental research of the flexible fixture is shown, which provides sufficient accessibility and allows to perform multiaxis machining of parts, e.g. of levers with one setup. The experimental studies compared with the results of numerical simulation that were previously obtained, confirmed that the proposed fixture design meets all accuracy parameters. The results of experimental studies on the determination of displacements have shown that the values of displacements, determined statically, in the proposed fixtures are smaller than the dedicated ones. The analysis of the data of determination of the frequencies of the proper oscillations in the machining of the levers from steel and cast iron has confirmed that the first critical frequency of the fixture significantly exceeds the similar parameter of dedicated fixture.

Przedstawiono propozycje oceny technologiczności konstrukcji specjalnych uchwytów obróbkowych. Przyjęto kryteria ilościowe oceny cech użytkowych i technologicznych, głównie w aspekcie montażu oprzyrządowania. Zaproponowana metoda może być szczególnie przydatna podczas projektowania obiektów technicznych przez mniej doświadczonych konstruktorów lub w procesie kształcenia mechaników technologów.

Proposals of the technological evaluation of structure of special handles were presented. Quantitative criteria of the evaluation of functional and technological features were adopted, mainly in the aspect of the assembly of the instrumentation. The suggested method can be particularly useful in designing technical objects by less experienced or in the process of education of mechanicstechnologists.

Strength and durability of thin-walled structures are usually calculated with the use of computer simulations. To perform such simulations using Finite Element Method, characteristics of a material subjected to monotonic tension or compression and tension-compression cyclic loading are necessary. Experimental determination of such kind of characteristics is usually performed on specimens cut out from a metal or composite thin sheet. Problems associated with testing on flat specimens under large deformation are discussed in this paper. A new design of fixture proposed by the authors for this kind of testing is shortly described. The results of investigations carried out on brass using the new fixture for flat specimens testing are also presented.

Simulating of workpiece and fixture behaviour is commonly done with the use of Finite Element Analyses. In the most, if not all, cases researchers usually use traditional implicit integration scheme FEM codes (e.g. ANSYS, ABAQUS/Standard, NASTRAN, FEAP). In this paper a different approach is proposed. FEM code of ABAQUS/Explicit, based on explicit integration of equations of the motion is used to predict workpiece behaviour during alignment and fixing process in quasistatic state. Comparison of results obtained using both implicit and explicit techniques is also presented, results and differences are discussed.
