A comparison of the rise of the temperature of an unprotected steel column subjected to the standard fire curve ISO 834 and to a natural fire model in the office

This paper presents a comparison of the changes in the temperature of a steel HEB 300 section column in a standard fire curve and in a natural fire. The EN 1991-1-2 standard and the fire dynamics simulator (FDS) were used to calculate the temperature of the steel column in a fire situation. The temperature of the steel column based on Eurocodes using the ISO 834 curve was different from the temperature obtained from the fire dynamics simulator, modeling a natural fire.

Opisano zasady ustalania miarodajnej ekspozycji ogniowej stowarzyszonej z wymaganą odpornością ogniową obudowy drogowego tunelu komunikacyjnego. Przedstawiono i przedyskutowano przykłady obowiązujących w różnych krajach normatywnych krzywych tunelowych definiujących odpowiedni pożar odniesienia. Analizowane rozwiązania skojarzono z przepisami wprowadzanymi obecnie do krajowej praktyki projektowej.

The rules helpful for specification of reliable fire exposure, associated with required fire resistance established for the lining of road communication tunnels are described in detail in the paper. Examples of some normative tunnel fire curves, obligatory in the most countries all over the world and defining the adequate fire conditions, are presented and widely discussed. The considered solutions are compared with the analogous regulations at present being introduced in Poland to the engineering practice.
