Due to their prevalence, the hazards posed by glass fibers are an important health problem. In this article, in a synthetic way, the types of glass fibers are characterized as well as the most important physical properties and applications are described. This paper analyzed the scale of the threat that glass fibers posed in occupational and non-occupational environments, including forms of their occurrence and ways to control the size of exposure. The adverse health effects caused by glass fiber exposures, including the results of in vivo, in vitro and epidemiological studies in human populations are also discussed. Finally, the modern material solutions applied to eliminate the hazards posed by glass fibers are presented as well.
