Owe pustki nabierają nowych znaczeń, odcieni i niuansów w każdej lokalizacji, gdzie architekt bada materię, ruch i bezruch brył, a przede wszystkim relację pomiędzy wnętrzem a zewnętrzem.

This article concerns the question of unconventional detached houses concentrating on the implementation of Wall House 2 designed by the American architect John Hejduk and realized in Groningen, the Netherlands in 2001, after his death. The author of this design was best-known for his theoretical works where he revealed a profound interest in the elementary questions of the shape, organization, representation and mutual impacts of the basic volumes of Euclidean geometry. He searched for relations between full elements and the empty spaces between them. These spaces assume new meanings, shades and nuances in every location where the architect researches the matter, motion and motionlessness of volumes, mainly the relation between the inside and the outside. More than ten years after its implementation and forty years after its design, the house in Groningen is still vanguard and can be called THE HOUSE OF THE FUTURE because it presents the philosophy of an unusually original and charismatic creator.

In the article Modern Movement is understood as the last part in the history of architecture which was continuation and the top of the Post-Englighement rational world. The transformations in the culture, after the 2nd World War had origins not only in the unfair adventage it's formal possibiliteies, but eihter, maybe first of all, inadequate to the changed worths, to the new paradigm. The origins of the transformations should be seen in the increascement of the scepticism about the human possibilities in the knowledge. The great falls in the 20th country: the 2nd World War, Holocaust and Hirosima at least unsettled human's belief in the Post-Kant's world of reason. The foreground in the middle of the century was the nihilistic philosophical concepts. In that time the pluralistic directions in the social life demaged the traditional mean of the place. Hiere is sketched a line of the thought from the human's belief in the progress and technology, by the negation of that belief and the triumph of the irrationalism, semiology'sexplorations of the cultural means hidden in the past of the culture of the West, to the revival of the Modern Movement watched in the last decade of the century. The foundation, not always consciouned, of the architect's work understood as the mirror of the times is the work of the philosophy, sociology and antropology. Here sre the names of: Voltaire, Kant, Nietzsche, Heidegger, Lyotard and Derrida, as the persons who the most precisely put a good construction on their times and the most important worths of the human life, srt, and architecture ariesed from it. The theoretics of architecture, as Hannes Meyer, Baynham, Giedion, Jencks and Andrew Benjamin who works on the boundary beetwen philosophy and architecture, follow philosophers some paces away later. The article does not pretend to be an answer for the question "what is going on in the architecture today", it rather shows it's philosophy foundations and see in the hermeneutic the right way to explore the contemporary trends in the srchitecture.

There are two main fields of the architectural studies traditionaly cultivated in the Deparment of Architecture in Kraków from its very building in 1945. One of them might be symbolized by the Babel Tower as an achievement of biulding the artificial environment for human being, moreattractive, safe and healthy than the world of nature. The picture of Arcadia might be a symbol representative for work a another group of the teaching architects from the depertment who search for the models of landscapes and settlements as the integrated parts of sustainable environment. Both of them form the large spectrum of the architectural ideas which use to be included into the program of studies. This ideological pluralism ought to be apprecated as the great advantage of Kraków School of Architecture. The students have the opportunities as to create Babel-like urban world as well as the contemporary rural settlement which start to be the place to live for more and more poeple looking for an Arcadia-like environment.

By remembering his own experiences in the Education Crango "Karpaty" and coming in contact with didactics and wooden architecture of Karpaty on the bring of extinction, the author wants to convey his own "Path of creation" which lead him to believe in the necessity of respect towards the cultural space and the character of given place. The completely serious choice of vocation, namely architecture should imply the respect towards the accomplishments of our predecessors with an equally artfull use of their imagination. The specyfics of the Cracow School of Architecture depends among other things on comeying the obrious, although varely used truth.
