Terrorist organisations using the strategy of suicide bombings have added a new focus to terrorism. One of the most surprising developments is the way in which suicide terrorism has opened the stage for the entry of female combatants who are increasingly involved in what used to be a male-dominated area. The majority of contemporary terrorist organisations are based on Islam. In many Islamic countries women are not permitted even to drive a car or vote during elections. However, they are allowed to go outside without man’s assistance if they are going to blow themselves up. Women’s access to the most extreme form of participation in terrorism occurs for many reasons, with distinct differences from one group to another. This article tries to explain why women decide to become suicide bombers and what kind of motivation pushes them to sacrifice their life in the name of contemporary suicide terrorism.
