Uprawa wierzby przynosi duże korzyści ekonomiczne i energetyczne. Uzyskany plon biomasy z 1 ha plantacji wystarcza na pokrycie roczne zapotrzebowania ciepła na ogrzanie domu jednorodzinnego. Wartość energetyczna wierzby uzyskana z plonu 1 ha wynosi średnio 308 GJ, przy stosunkowo niskich kosztach wytwarzania.

In the paper the author presents the energetic meaning of shrub pillows and especially Salix viminalis. This species is very popular on all territory of our country. Before was used in the basket works and now first of all as energetic plant. For the energetic aims the Salix viminalis requires of cultivation on plantation. It is not difficult and not expensive, because the Salix viminalis can grow on the all kinds of arable lands and gives good production results. On average from 1 ha of Salix viminalis plantation we can receive in each year 15 t s.m. of timber. Such quantity is sufficient for heating one family house during all year. It results from this, that average calorific value of basket willow wood amounts about 14 MJ/kg that is approached to calorific value poor quality of coal. But besides direct burning biomass of basket willow we can also give its wood to heat treatment and to receive very valuable biofuel for Diesel engines and others. Production of biofuels is not only competitive for traditional fuels but it is also harmless for environment. There are more details in the paper.
