Irrespective of the epoch man has always aimed at ensuring himself and his family a safe shelter, which is an apartm ent building. Review of the building industry history shows how used building materials affect its development. They affect the construction of buildings, dimensions, shape and architectonic form of a building. Results of field investigations relating to building materials solutions for detached houses in the commune of Kościan have been presented in this article. We took into account the year of building, material, which was used for construction of particular building elements, its finishing and isolation.

The way of building of a one-family country house has evolved within years. Development and transformation processes consist in structural changes leading to tnore complex and improved states. Farm er house not only has a residential function but it also is a center of farm production tools for a farmer and his family disposal. Functional program of a country house is influenced by several factors, such as: building materials, location, financial state of a family and functional character of a farm. Farm house transformation analysis was performed on the basis of field works in Naruszewo commune.
