The role of corporate social responsibility in development of communication with external stakeholders and environmental protection – an example of a telecommunications company

Purpose: The concept of CSR is one of the most important topics from the point of view of both scientific research and companies’ actions. Although corporate social responsibility seems to be common practice, however in many cases, these are often one-time actions aimed at building firms’ image. The paper tries to look at this issue from a perspective of a telecommunications company. Design/methodology/approach: Secondary sources of information were used as well primary ones, obtained by the means of direct interviews conducted in a company providing telecommunication services, using an independently prepared, unstructured questionnaire as the research tool. The data obtained was analyzed using the inductive-deductive method. Findings: The CSR initiatives undertaken by the studied company proves that it develops good, long-term relations with its stakeholders such as suppliers and business partners, clients as well as the local government. The corporate social responsibility is incorporated in company’s organizational culture and it cannot be treated as one-time, ad-hoc events which is quite common for other companies. Originality/value: The analyzed company was not previously studied in terms of CSR activities. The paper can be useful for stakeholders, especially the local government as it can see the firm’s strong commitment to the development of the social, the economic and the natural environment of the region.

W artykule opisano nową koncepcje systemu bezpieczeństwa mienia podróżnych w transporcie kolejowym. Dokonano analizy prawnych aspektów wdrożenia systemu bezpieczeństwa w transporcie kolejowym oraz miejsce, jakie zajmuje w tym systemie bezpieczeństwo mienia osobistego podróżującego. Przeanalizowano stan istniejący, co pozwoliło na określenie głównych założeń dla systemu oraz działalności w jego ramach poszczególnych służb. Zaprezentowano statystyki weryfikujące skuteczność oraz efektywność służb biorących udział w systemie. Nowa koncepcja systemu bezpieczeństwa mienia w głównej mierze oparta jest na starym systemie jednakże wskazano obszary, które należałoby udoskonalić i wykazano propozycje tych udoskonaleń. W nowej koncepcji systemu scharakteryzowano interesariuszy zewnętrznych i wewnętrznych oraz za pomocą listy kontrolnej zbadano występujące zakłócenia. W artykule zwrócono uwagę przede wszystkim na elementy sytemu takie jak szkolenia oraz komunikacja. System został tak stworzony, aby jego wdrożenie i poprawa były możliwe całościowo bez zbędnych obciążeń finansowych.

The following paper describes a new concept of a safety system designed for the personal property of rail travelers. An analysis was made of the legal aspects of the implementation of safety systems in rail transport and the place that property safety occupies in this system. Current conditions, which are the basis for the above system and the Railway Protection Guard's activities, are analyzed. Statistics are presented which verify the effectiveness and efficiency of services participating in the system. The new concept of a property safety system is mainly based on the old system, however, it identifies areas that need to be improved and demonstrates proposals for their improvement. In the new concept of the system internal and external stakeholders are characterized, and through the use of checklist, possible disruptions are examined. The article focuses primarily on system components such as training and communication. The system has been developed in such a way that its implementation and improvement will be possible without unnecessary financial burden.
