This article presents a description of the simulation study of the low rate wireless personal area networks, defined by the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. The obtained results make it available to evaluate the effective transmission rate of a transmission channel, the resistance to the phenomenon of hidden station as well as the sensibility to the problem of exposed node.

Bezprzewodowe sieci osobiste o niskiej przepływności znajdują coraz szersze zastosowanie w systemach przemysłowych, alarmowych oraz rozbudowanych sieciach sensorowych. Ich strukturę oraz dostępne sposoby prowadzenia transmisji definiuje standard IEEE 802.15.4, którego podstawowe cechy przedstawiono w pierwszej części artykułu. Część druga zawiera wyniki badań symulacyjnych, umożliwiające ocenę efektywnej przepływności kanału, odporności na pojawienie się w systemie stacji ukrytej oraz wrażliwości na problem węzła eksponowanego.

The article presents an analysis of wireless personal area networks with low transmission rate, utilized more and more often in industrial or alarm systems, as well as in sensor networks. The structure of these systems and available ways of transmission are defined by the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. The main characteristics of this standard are given in the first part of this article. The second part contains the description of simulation tests that have been realized. Their results make available an evaluation of the effective transmission rate of a transmission channel, the resistance to the phenomenon of hidden station as well as sensibility to the problem of the exposed node.
