The most important factor for the success of a company in today’s competitive environment is to have clearly defined goals. Objectives define what a company strives for, what it wants to achieve, and what it wants to realize in its activities. Clearly defined goals are necessary to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of a company’s operations and the successful achievement of its desired results. This paper proposes an expert method for determining the strategic goals of a company. The experts ranked 24 strategic goals in terms of importance, and variance and coefficient of variation were then used to determine the consistency of the experts. As a result, 15 important strategic goals were identified of the 24 goals of the assessed transport company.

Travel comfort depends on many criteria, including, to a large extent, the passenger's sense of security while waiting for the vehicle and while driving. For this reason, tram stops play an essential role in the overall assessment of the functioning of the tram system in cities. The presented results of the literature review indicate that few publications related to safety in the tram transport system concern aspects of the infrastructure of stops. The articles we distin-guished in this area also prove the lack of publications in which the researchers focus on the criteria for assessing the safety of tram stops. The paper aims to present the results of research conducted among experts, which concerned identifying criterions influencing the safety of tram stops and the selection of criteria for their evaluation. In addition, the obtained results are the basis for further analysis of safety at tram stops. The research was conducted among experts representing almost all cities in Poland with a tram service system for residents. The obtained results showed that the critical elements from the safety point of view are those related to technical aspects, i.e., length, width, and height of platforms, which are adapted to both the rolling stock and the size of passenger flows. The second significant group of criteria determining the safety of stops is equipping them with elements supporting their use by people with disabilities, i.e., placing warning fields at the edges of the platform, designating a waiting area for people with reduced mobility, or the use of guiding lanes. It is also crucial to maintain adequate separation of traffic between its various participants so that other people do not use the waiting and passenger exchange zone. The results obtained as part of the analysis will form the basis for the development of a detailed method of assessing tram stops in Poland in terms of their safety.

This article presents the method of resolving conflicts arising around projects implemented in the area included in the revitalisation programme. The author presents the subject of social participation in the Central European context, in which the low level of social trust and the difficulty in making joint decisions in the spirit of consensus are characteristic. The aim of this article is to try to define the role of experts in the participatory planning model. The described case study allows for the assumption that in the search for the desired changes in the area covered by the revitalization program, the participation of not only stakeholders but also experts should be taken into account. Thanks to this approach, it becomes possible to articulate – often contradictory needs, which in turn increases the chances for the implementation of postulates submitted by stakeholders. Real social participation in the decision-making process regarding changes related to revitalization is possible thanks to the involvement of experts who are, in a way, “shop stewards” who guarantee not only an appropriate level of debate but also help to objectify the developed postulates.

The article presents the results of expert assessment of the quality of three different branches of trucks in terms of their suitability for long-term rental. The expert assessment is faster and cheaper compared to the analogous evaluation obtained on the basis of operational tests, hence the purpose of this article is to assess the accuracy of the results obtained in expert studies. The reliability characteristics of vehicles, such as: readiness, probability of first failure and distribution of mileage between successive repairs, were used as parameters for empirical quality assessment. Operational tests covered three groups of 30 vehicles. As part of the research, changes in vehicle technical readiness occurring during operation were also assessed. The failures of individual functional systems of the vehicle were also analyzed and compared with the results of expert studies. The expert assessment was based on a questionnaire regarding the overall assessment of the reliability and performance of cars. 32 experts - appraisers, with good knowledge of the construction of cars of the tested brands participated in these studies. On the basis of comparisons of the results of the expert assessment with the results of empirical studies, conclusions were drawn regarding the correctness of the assessment made by experts.

The Dempster-Shafter Theory is well-known for its usefulness to express uncertain judgments of experts. This contribution shows how to apply the calculus to safety and reliability modelling, especially to expert judgement; Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis; Event Tree Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, and Reliability Centred Maintenance. Including a tutorial introduction to the Dempster-Shafer Theory, the differences between the Probability and the Dempster-Shafer Theory are discussed widely.
