We describe a method of calculating sharp lower and upper bounds on the expectations of linear combinations of kth records Expressem in the Gini mean difference units of the original i.i.d. observations. In particular, we provide sharp lower and upper bounds on the expectations of kth records and their differences. We also present the families of distributions which attain the bounds in the limit.
The article presents a study of applying the proposed method of cluster analysis to support purchasing decisions in the welding industry. The authors analyze the usefulness of the non-hierarchical method, Expectation Maximization (EM), in the selection of material (212 combinations of flux and wire melt) for the SAW (Submerged Arc Welding) method process. The proposed approach to cluster analysis is proved as useful in supporting purchase decisions.

We consider different definitions of expectation of random elements taking values in metric spaces. All such definitions are valid also in Banach spaces and in this case the results coincide with the Bochner integral. There may exist an isometry between considered metric space and some Banach space and in this case one can use the Bochner integral instead of expectation in metric space. We give some conditions which ensure existence of such isometry, for two different definitions of expectation in metric space.
Our theoretical study aims at finding the statistical parameters characterizing the vibrations of a string without damping and forced by stochastic impulses when the places and moments of actions are random. We derive the dependence of these parameters from the parameters of the string as well as from the stochastic distributions of the impulse magnitude, and of the place of the action. We also carry out a numerical simulation verifying the derived mathematical model and interpret the differences between the results obtained in the simulation and the mathematical calculations. This study is the third stage of research aimed at designing and calibrating a probe that will facilitate measuring of parameters determining the quality of a technological process.
