W pracy przedstawiono przyczyny badań nad zastosowaniem rozprężarek w układach chłodniczych. Przytoczono możliwe rodzaje rozprężarek. Do analizy porównawczej wybrano rozprężarkę turbinową. Przedstawiono wyniki prac teoretycznych i eksperymentalnych dotyczących obiegów chłodniczych z dwutlenkiem węgla w układzie nadkrytycznym i podkrytycznym, w których zastosowano rozprężarki turbinowe. Dowiedziono, że zastosowanie rozprężarek pozwoliło na oszczędność energii w takich układach do około 25%.

The paper presents the causes of research on the use of expanders in refrigeration systems. The possible types of expander are introduced. The turbine expander was selected for the comparative analysis. The results of theoretical and experimental work on cooling cycles with carbon dioxide as refrigerant in the supercritical and subcritical systems equipped with turbine decompressors were presented. It has been proven that the use of expanders has enabled energy savings in the level of 25%.

The article discusses the problems related to the operation of various types of expansion devices used in small cogeneration systems. Both volumetric and dynamic expanders were considered, including scroll, screw, vane, piston and turbine expanders. For each of these solutions, principles of operation were explained as well as major advantages and disadvantages. The results of experimental research on several expanders of various types were also presented. The overview of expanders included in this paper, along with basic operational problems and functional characteristics, is the collection of valuable information facilitating selection of a suitable expander for speciﬁc applications. This is particularly important in the context of search for new energy sources and opportunities to improve the energy eﬃciency of available energy resources.
