Luminescence and excitation spectra of the systems on the basis of the nanoporous glass impregnated with KBr-TlBr and TlBr solutions as well as KBr single crystals surface-doped with thallium were studied in visible and ultraviolet regions at T = 77 K. It was shown that each of the studied systems has its peculiar optical properties, which differ from those of the corresponding macroscopic single crystals. The results are discussed taking into account the physicochemical features of the thallium insertion in the preparation of samples from solutions.

A method of supersonic beam combined with techniques of laser spectroscopy and simulations of spectra were employed to study interatomic potentials of Cd2 and Zn2 molecules. Total laser induced fluorescence was recorded after an excitation of Cd2 using laser radiation in the range of 2200–2260 Å. The observed structures are interpreted as due to the transitions from υ" = 0 in the ground state to vibrational levels below the potential barrier of the 11u(51P1) electronic state. Studies of Zn2 consisted of simulations of excitation and fluorescence spectra recorded at the transition. In the simulations, both isotopic and rotational structures were taken into account.

Photoluminescence (PL) spectra and excitation spectra (PLE) (under steady-state conditions), time resolved spectra (PL-TRS) and decay curves of photoluminescence (PL-DC) in micro- and nanosecond range (under pulsed operation) at different temperatures (10 K-room) on anodically etched boron–doped silicon are presented. PLE shows that visible PL is excited by light from UV region. PL and PL-TRS exhibit multiband structure and can be decomposed as a sum of few Gaussians. PL-DCs have multiexponential shape. Relaxation times depend on wavelength of the observation. To explain our results we assumed a model in which the multibarrier structure is formed by larger Si crystallites or wires (quantum well) surrounded by Si crystallites with diameters in the nanometer range (barrier region). The visible photoluminescence originates from radiative recombination between discrete energy levels in a quantum well

Eu(III) selective excitation spectroscopy involving the /sup 7/F/sub 0/ to /sup 5/D/sub 0/ transition has been briefly characterized as an important luminescence technique for metal binding sites. An experimental system consisting of a nitrogen laser and a tunable dye laser has been modified for measurements of the Eu(III) excitation spectra. The experimental setup gives the possibility for concurrent registration of excitation spectra and luminescence decay curves for every wavelength of excitation. The system is controlled by a PC using a specially written program for collecting and processing the /sup 7/F/sub 0/ to /sup 5/D/sub 0/ spectra of Eu(III).
