An 11-storey office building and a 9-storey Marriott Courtyard hotel with a shared underground garage are being built in Gdynia. Specialised geotechnical works consisted in the provision of excavation safety and the building foundation. The signed contract included: the execution of a diaphragm wall and its anchoring/strutting, the execution of piles and a horizontal Soilcrete antifiltration barrier, as well as groundwork and drainage. The greatest challenge while designing and providing comprehensive safety of the excavation and the building foundation were e.g.: a high level of groundwater, the presence of low-bearing slit material deposits in the ground, as well as a proximity of the directly founded high-rise building of Sea Towers and waterfront platforms.
