Ściany szczelne wykonywane z jednostkowych elementów stalowych zwanych grodzicami lub brusami są obecnie powszechnie wykorzystywane praktycznie we wszystkich obszarach budownictwa. W artykule omówiono na przykładach wybrane nowe zastosowania ścian szczelnych w dalszej części pracy, eksponując zwłaszcza obiekty zrealizowane w Polsce, w ostatnim czasie.

In the first part of the paper a review of different applications of sheet-pile walls in modern engineering, as elements of both temporary as well as permanent structures, mainly in the area of bridges and other facilities of transportation system is given. Next, issues related to computational modeling of soil-structure interaction problem, specific to the sheet-pile wall systems, are discussed. It is shown that usage of FEM could be beneficial, which agrees with some recommendation of Eurocode 7. However, realistic computational modeling requires some non-standard options like consideration of construction/excavation stages. General discussion on feasibility of 2D and 3D FE modeling in analysis of practical geotechnical engineering problems is illustrated by an example of the structure of a soil-tied sheet-pile wall system emerging during construction of a shallow tunnel underneath a train line without traffic interruption. The application of finite element modeling to set up design parameters and to verify safety of the structure is described. In 2D soil-structure analysis, performed with use of Z_SOIL.PC code, elasto-plastic models were applied to the soil continuum. Moreover, beam and interface elements were used. Remarks on different technical and design aspects of applications of sheet-pile walls conclude the paper.
