Artykuł przedstawia problematykę wpływu aktualnych i przewidywanych regulacji proekologicznych IMO na pragmatykę procesów transportowych w Żegludze morskiej. Istotnego znaczenia nabierają konstrukcyjne i operacyjne czynniki zmniejszające zużycie paliwa na statkach a tym samym wpływające na redukcję emisji szkodliwych gazów cieplarnianych GHG. Obligatoryjne stanie się wkrótce zliczanie tej emisji w ramach monitoringu i kontroli. Systemami które powinny się w związku z tym rozwijać będą pokładowe systemy monitoringu zużycia paliw.

International shipping is estimated to have emitted up to 1,1 million tonnes of CO2, which corresponds to approximately 3% of the global emissions. Exhaust gases are the primary source of emissions from ships. Carbon dioxide is the most important GHG emitted by ships. A significant potential for reduction of GHG through technical and operational measures has been identified. Together, if implemented, these measures could increase efficiency and reduce the emissions rate by 25% to 75% below the current levels. Many of these measures appear to be cost-effective, although nonfinancial barriers may discourage their implementation. A number of policies to reduce GHG emissions from ships are conceivable. A mandatory limit on the Energy Efficiency Design Index for new ships is a cost-effective solution that can provide an incentive to improve the design efficiency of new ships. Hovewer during day-to-day business the only way to reduce emission is a reduction of fuel consumption by ship. To deal with the complexity of all measures undertaken in order to achieve expected reduction of the CO2 emissions, new shipborne intelligent telematics services should be introduced and widely implemented. Between all available systems APISS Economizer and ABB Propulsion Condition Management System – PCMS are good examples how to implement necessary measures and tools.
