Currently, the manufacturing management board applies technologies in line with the concept of Industry 4.0. Cyber-physical production systems (CPSs) mean integrating computational processes with the corresponding physical ones, i.e., allowing work at the operational level and at the strategic level to run side by side. This paper proposes a framework to collect data and information from a production process, namely, the burnishing one, in order to monitor real-time deviations from the correct course of the process and thus reduce the number of defective products within the manufacturing process. The proposed new solutions consist of (i) the data and information of the production process, acquired from sensors, (ii) a predictive model, based on the Hellwig method for errors in the production process, relying on indications of a machine status, and (iii) an information layer system, integrating the process data acquired in real time with the model for predicting errors within the production process in an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, that is, the business intelligence module. The possibilities of using the results of research in managerial practice are demonstrated through the application of an actual burnishing process. This new framework can be treated as a solution which will help managers to monitor the production flow and respond, in real time, to interruptions.

Increasing the role of sustainable production benefits in transforming manufacturing towards the sustainable organisation. The proposed model integrates two dimensions, namely, the Sustainable Business Model (SBM) and the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, and defines it as the SBM-ERP. This paper focuses attention on determining SBM-ERP based on the literature research, Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (F-AHP) method and the results of the analysis on the experiences with the implementation of the ERP system in manufacturing. It was determined that the proprietary approach allows the company’s sustainable manufacturing activities to be organised and monitored, based on real-time data and information, as updated and included in the ERP system. We also emphasized the practicality of the proposed approach for managers of manufacturing companies with an implemented ERP system.

The aim of this article is to identify and critically analyse numerous issues and challenges related to the implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning system. It begins with a brief introduction to the history of IT management support systems, where the evolution of the ERP concept is discussed. The author explains what are the benefits and potential problems for a company introducing ERP with the focus on ERP systems widely used in production businesses, as this solution was developed to meet the changing requirements of the manufacturing industry. Therefore potential enhancements offered by ERP are discussed, mainly connected with production rationalization. The author points out that using one, unified database that can be accessed by all employees simultaneously, affects almost all functional units of an enterprise and discusses what tangible benefits arise from such a solution. The architecture of an ERP system is described on the basis of a solution offered by SAP – SAP ERP. Due to ERP applications, the circulation of information is improved through acceleration. What is more, the redesign of internal business processes required for ERP implementation might be perceived as an incentive for further changes.

The article focuses on the problems concerning production line capacity. The example of a certain problem concerning a line, on which the axles for grass mower are producing, is analyzed in the paper. To solve the problem authors used lean tools such as value stream mapping and ProModel program for simulation of the production line working. After gathering information about production line and processes realizing on the line, the current state of the value stream map was drawn. On the base of the map analysis and talks with employees and management the improvements, which could improve production line working and its capacity, were proposed. Improvements were discussed and chosen of them were indicated to check in simulations. Then a first version of future state of value stream map with the indicated improvements was prepared. To do simulations a plan was developed. As variables are taken: frequency of delivery, effective working time, number of simultaneously assembled products, number of lathes in the line and number of products in batch. Next a model of the production line in ProModel program was build. With the use of the model, in the range of the analysis, 144 simulations were done. Obtained data are analyzed and proposals for line developing are presented. To increase production line capacity an additional lathe has to be introduced into the line. Authors also indicate that morning break should be cut down to 5 min. Another solution, which has to be introduced, is changing a frequency of delivery. The frequency should equal 8 hours and it is enough. More often deliveries are not cost effective, although they could give even better capacity. It was impossible to double capacity by introducing only other improvements avoiding costs concerning with necessity of buying a new lathe. The proposals are shown in the second version of future state of value stream map. Authors also indicate the further possible development and analysis.

According to requirements of the market a great number of small companies are forced to offer a wide variety of products and to frequently respond to the market with customized solutions. At the same time, the fast delivery of products is often key to winning orders. Recent developments in Information Technology have made product family manufacturing available for small companies. It is made possible by applying a class of software tools called product configurations which can be integrated with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. For configurable products, due to the number of options for implementation, the process of data preparation requires special care so that not to be too time-consuming and likely to be realized in production practice. This article presents problem of product identification, customizable product modeling, user interface issues, the algorithmic generating of bill of materials and routing processes based on the options specified by the B2B system users and data flow in the operational management. The decision framework of product family design and development along the entire spectrum of product realization according to the concept of design domains. Product family decision-making involves a series of "what how" mappings between these domains. Managing product families consisting of a large set of product variants as configurable products requires defining a configuration model. The concepts and modeling guidelines for them were validated with success in SME for roller shutters. Information system support is necessary for modeling products, particularly for a configuration available on the Internet for B2B partners. In addition to having a good understanding of the product, a designer should be familiar with object oriented modeling. The main benefit there would be improving communication within the product development team and to other departments in the company, e.g. sales. The benefits also include the use of additional functions provided by the knowledge database, structure and the related design constraints during the product development. The method was validated in the conditions of best practice production for unit and small batch production.

Uwarunkowania współczesnych przedsiębiorstw wymagają dostosowywania produkcji wyrobów do ciągle zmieniających się wymagań klienta. Powoduje to konieczność produkcji jednostkowej i małoseryjnej wyrobów wariantowych w wielu opcjach wykonania. Poniżej podano przykład zastosowania metody do optymalizacji pracy wycinarki laserowej. Podany przykład zaczerpnięto z badań praktyki produkcyjnej przedsiębiorstwa produkującego wyroby sprzętu szpitalnego, w którym "wąskie gardła" ulokowane były między innymi na wycinarkach laserowych.

Determinant of contemporary enterprises requires adapting the production of products for still changing requirements of the customer The production planning in most companies in small and medium enterprises (SME) consists of two-stage hierarchy, medium term planning and detailed scheduling. A necessity of the individual and small-batch production causes it of variant products in many options of the workmanship. The production of products in Polish enterprisers takes place on universal machines mainly in the SME's. Medium term planning is mostly carried out by MRPII or ERP software. The detailed scheduling level activities in the plans are performed by advanced planning software. This software in individual and small-batch conditions of production focuses on moving bottlenecks. Using techniques of classification and grouping into organizationally similar groups setup times were reduced. For the reduction of bottlenecks data of the ERP system were used. Assumptions were validated wilh researches in real enterprises. The examples of using the above method to the optimization of the laser cutter's tasks were given.

Nowadays enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are worldwide a standard solution implemented in a great number of manufacturing companies worldwide. The implementation of an ERP system is performed to integrate business processes, allocate company’s resources efficiently and provide important data for decision support. Implementing an ERP system is expensive and time-consuming. Therefore a great number of research activities are focused on key success factors of ERP implementations. But what does a successful implementation of ERP system mean? If an ERP project was completed according to the schedule, the budget was not exceeded and the scope was realized, it means that the implementation was successful? Implementation of an ERP system is a long-term undertaking, and not only a short-term project that is finished just after the system installation. Especially for a project driven enterprise that realizes engineer-to-order production, the evaluation should encompass a long period of time. In the article a methodology based on ERP data analysis and end users’ satisfaction is proposed. This research is based on a real data, extracted from ERP system of a polish company that realizes prototyping production in the area of machine tools construction.

Small and medium size enterprises (SME) are finding that the technology available trough ASP (Application Service Providing) can help them apply ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) techniques to their operations. By using application service providers for processes such as online invoicing. production and inventory, businesses are strengthening their links to customers. vendors and business partners. Since supply chains are mainly supported by software solutions (for instance ERP), SMEs must be able to use and implement a solution themselves. Because they don't have the required capital and IT that enables it, they will fall out of the Supply Chains. The solution to this problem is just the ASP.

The traditional, accounting based investment justification methods often fail to measure proper value of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, mainly because of strategic, intangible nature of the benefits involved. The paper examines new approaches to justification such modern systems, namely analytic and strategic appraisal methods. Special attention is given to using Activity-Based Costing (ABC) to justification of integrated production management systems.
