This study demonstrates that integrated management and direct control systems may be combined into integrated enterprise process control (EntPC) systems, which are composed of self-controlling enterprise business processes. A business process has been defined as a control system for business activities, which are considered to be business processes of the lower level, or as base processes that are control systems for control plants in the form of infrastructure operations. An enterprise process also influences its delivery. This description of a business process is usually compared with definitions used in such approaches as BPMN, YAWL, ARIS and DEMO and MERODE. Each enterprise process has its own controlling unit that contains one information unit and one decision unit, as well as memory places of the information-decision state variables that are processed by the business transitions that belong to these units. The i-d state variables are attributes of business objects, i.e. business units, business roles, business activities, business accounts and business products. Their values are transferred between business transitions that belong to the same or different controlling units. Relationships between business objects, business transitions and i-d state variables, as well as the other most important concepts of the EntPC system framework (EntPCF), are presented in this paper as the class diagrams of the enterprise process control language (EntPCL).

The paper explores and analyses approaches and opinions about best practices and recommendations in business process modelling. In the process modelling literature, also as a part of any business modelling activity methodologies, there are no explicit texts about best practices. Additionally, business process modelling is a part of different (approximately 30) business and enterprise modelling architectures, references and frameworks. The paper addresses the following questions: What is the best way to undertake business process modelling? What procedures and core activities are essential during stages of modelling? What are the most important rules, practices and standards to guide the business process modelling community?

Importance of managing organizational knowledge for manufacturing enterprises has been recognized since decades. This paper addresses two specific aspects of organizational knowledge modelling: (1) capturing organizational knowledge for supporting product development with so called task patterns and (2) evaluation of task pattern use with focus on economic effects achieved. Starting from an industrial case of product development, the paper introduces the concept of task patterns and the method used for development. The evaluation of task pattern use in product development is based on an adaptation of the balanced scorecard approach. The industrial application of task patterns did not only prove feasible and deployable, but resulted also in a number of positive evaluation results. There is reason to believe that lead times can be shortened, the quality of product documentation increases, and the quality of best practices in general seems to improve when using active knowledge models instead of conventional documentation.

In this paper the principles of optimal production planning in foundry which uses integrated information system are presented. We propose to implement IDEF0 model for designing the production planning system. This concept is illustrated with example project which was developed for one of polish foundries.
