The results of an experimental study of the effect of the pressure drop of the air filter pf on the operating parameters and exhaust emissions of a modern CI internal combustion engine of a truck equipped with an electronically controlled power system are presented. The tests were carried out for an air filter with a clean filter cartridge Δpf0 = 0.58 kPa and with a cartridge contaminated after a service mileage (about 50 thousand km) ΔpfD = 2.024 kPa. In each test, engine performance, exhaust emissions and relative change in emissions were determined: CO, NOx, HC, CO2, H2O. It was found that an increase in the filter resistance pf causes a decrease in the filling degree by 12%, engine useful power by almost 10%, exhaust gas temperature by a maximum of 30oC and an increase in specific fuel consumption by almost 5%. Air filter resistance has no significant effect on NOx emissions and HC concentration. There is a reduction in H2O emissions by up to 7%, CO by up to 13% and CO2 by up to 4%, and an increase in oxygen emissions by 15%, depending on operating conditions.

In a conventional internal combustion engine, only electrical controls are used to prepare the fuel mixture. All parts must operate flawlessly in order for the vehicle and its components to operate correctly. Road safety may be negatively impacted by the failure of specific components. The purpose of the study was to ascertain how much the malfunction of particular electrical components affects how the vehicle operates. The vehicle’s individual electronic parts were removed, and the engine power was then assessed. The primary determinant of a vehicle’s technical condition is thought to be its engine power. The preparation of the combustion mixture was affected by the individual component disconnections, which reduced the vehicle’s performance. A vehicle with an in-line four-cylinder engine was used for the experiment, which was conducted in a lab setting. This vehicle’s eight components were gradually disengaged. The change in engine power was observed while they were disconnected. The measured values were always evaluated in terms of an automobile that had no defects and was in excellent condition. The study’s findings demonstrate that there are circumstances in which a vehicle’s usual operation is adversely affected when one or more of its electrical components malfunctions.

Based on data from seven different ship types, this paper provides mathematical relationships that allow us to estimate the main and auxiliary engine power of new ships. With these mathematical relationships we can estimate the power of the engine based on the ship’s length (L), gross tonnage (GT) and age. We developed these approaches using simple linear regression, polynomial regression, K-nearest neighbours (KNN) regression and gradient boosting machine (GBM) regression algorithms. The relationships presented here have a practical application: during the pre-parametric design of new ships, our mathematical relationships can be used to estimate the power of the engines so that more environmentally friendly ships may be built. In addition, with the machine learning methodology, the prediction of the main engine (ME) and auxiliary engine (AE) powers used in the numerical calculation of ship-based emissions provides data for researchers working on emission calculations. We conclude that the GBM regression algorithm provides more accurate solutions to estimate the main and auxiliary engine power of a ship than other algorithms used in the study.

The article demonstrates a rational scheme of the supercharging system in a helicopter diesel engine with a power of 100 kW, regardless of the flight altitude, and proposes a method for assessing the power losses for a diesel engine depending on the flight altitude using a mathematical model. There are three variants of an engine supercharger scheme with a single-stage turbocharger, a two-stage one with parallel or sequential compressor drive and a turbo-blower. As a result of the computational analysis according to the original method, it was shown that from the point of view of the least energy consumption two-stage scheme with a compressor and a sequential drive is the most rational. To reduce energy losses in the drive with two-stage supercharging, a concept for controlling the pressure system was proposed, which includes changing the rotational speed of the compressor drive and adjusting the throttles. Simulation of the engines running during the climb/descent of the helicopter showed that the proposed pressure scheme and control concept is effective. In order to improve the quality of regulation, the possibility to use an electric drive with the first stage compressor is being considered.

The article presents an analysis of the possibility of using DME fuel to power internal combustion engines. The possibilities of using DME as an engine fuel in relation to world and European achievements have been widely discussed. Moreover, the preliminary results of the tests determining the possibility of using the DME-LPG mixture to power the diesel engine are presented. The research consisted in determining the influence of the DME-LPG mixture on the power and torque of the engine at various loads. The changes in the temperature of the exhaust gases were also determined in relation to the different proportions of DME in the mixture.

W artykule przedstawiono analizę możliwości zastosowania paliwa DME do zasilania silników spalinowych. Przeprowadzono szerokie omówienie możliwości zastosowania DME jako paliwa silnikowego w odniesieniu do osiągnięć światowych i europejskich. Ponadto przedstawiono wstępne wyniki badań określających możliwość zastosowania mieszaniny DME - LPG do zasilania silnika ZI. Badania polegały na określeniu wpływu mieszaniny DME - LPG na moc i moment obrotowy silnika przy różnych jego obciążeniach. Określono także zmiany temperatury gazów wylotowych w odniesieniu do różnych udziałów DME w mieszaninie.

During ship operation, one of the most important tasks is forecasting the ocean route. One of the criteria for forecasting is the minimum fuel consumption. Fuel consumption and associated emissions are also very important for other criteria. In common use, as well as in various publications, the results of calculations of fuel consumption obtained from simplified algorithms are presented. The article presents a mathematical model for calculating fuel consumption for a floating vessel in various weather conditions. In this model different criteria for controlling the propulsion engine were used by changing the fuel dose. The results of the calculations included include: fuel consumption, power of the propulsion engine and operating speed of the ship in varying weather conditions

The noise generated by the four-stroke S320 Andoria internal combustion engine is a complex field of study because the total sound pressure is the sum of the sound pressures produced by each engine component. The noise level and sound frequency of diesel engines used in agricultural machinery are highly dependent on fuel combustion. The standard diesel fuel conforming to EN 115 was used in the tests. Sound pressure was measured with the Bruel & Kjear equipment. Investigations show the dynamics of the dynamic parameters of the four-stroke engine, which must be evaluated when operating agricultural machinery. Experimental research of power influence on sound pressure of four-stroke diesel engine was performed. The dependence of the sound pressure level on the variation of the motor power was determined. Studies have shown that as the engine power increases from 2.63 to 9.48 kW, the sound pressure standard deviation increases by about 0.041 Pa.

Power of any kind of a car engine is considered to be one of the basic factors in order to choose or assess vehicles equipment or its appropriateness. It influences several operation properties including car maximum velocity, car acceleration, etc. A car producer shall issue the data about an engine power of a car in a form of its technical attributes, nevertheless an engine power specification is also stated in a car registration certificate. Engine power may be defined as the maximum engine output at given revolutions of an engine, i.e. maximum engine power. In most of cases of cars operation, various situations may occur in order to specify the maximum engine power value. This study addresses the issue of determining individual factors affecting the engine power while a passenger car in operation, i.e. testing the engine power on the single roller bench and related particular analysis.

This paper is a summary of the design and workmanship of the formula student engine intake vehicle, for simulation research projects were conducted on the intake system. In the process, the most favourable model system was selected, which was capable of producing a satisfactory range of the characteristics of the engine. For chosen models, the intake system was also determined in terms of its impact on the power and torque of the test vehicle, which was driven by a four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 0.6 dm3 .

Cylinder filling ratio is the main indicator that determines engine power and has a substantial effect on drivetrain working parameters. A problem that research and science centers are facing is an even air distribution in a multi-cylinder engine. The article presents an experimental stand for investigation of flow processes in the intake manifold of a fourcylinder engine with the use of DPIV method.

The paper presents mathematical relationships that allow us to forecast the newbuilding price of new bulk carriers, based on data concerning vessels built in 2005-2015. The presented approximations allow us to estimate the price based on a gross tonnage capacity and a main engine power The approximations were developed using linear regression and the theory of artificial neural networks. The presented relations have practical application for estimation of bulk carrier newbuilding price needed in preliminary parametric design of the ship. It follows from the above that the use of artificial neural networks to predict the price of a bulk carrier brings more accurate solutions than linear regression.

W publikacji przedstawiono matematyczne zależności pozwalające na prognozowanie ceny budowy masowców budowanych w latach 2005-2015. Przedstawione aproksymacje pozwalają na oszacowanie ceny w oparciu o pojemność rejestrową GT i moc napędu. Aproksymacje zostały opracowane przy wykorzystaniu regresji liniowej i teorii sztucznych sieci neuronowych. Przedstawione zależności mają praktyczne zastosowanie do szacowania ceny budowy masowca dla potrzeb wstępnego parametrycznego projektowania statku. Z badań wynika, że zastosowanie sztucznych sieci neuronowych do prognozowania ceny masowca przynosi dokładniejsze rozwiązania niż wykorzystanie regresji liniowej.

It has been shown, that during the investigated period of 2006-2013 in all analyzed regions of Poland: north-west, south-west, north-east and south-east, the majority of purchased tractors was in the power group of: 75-90 and 90-118 kW and, approximately, about half fewer within the groups of power 75-90 and 90-118 kW. However, in the Western Poland, especially in the south-east region, much more new and used tractors with the power 18-75 kW were purchased. Generally, in all regions purchases concerned more of used tractors rather than new ones in the group of power 37-59 kW, on the other hand, much more of new tractors than used ones were purchased in the group of power 59-75 kW. The total power of the implemented tractors for usage was the highest in the south-east region, at the lowest equivalent average power of an individual tractor. It has been shown, that during the years 2006-2013 there was a moderate upward trend of the average equivalent power of tractors, purchased only in the regions of lowest power saturation - i.e. in the south-west and north-east regions.

Wykazano ogólnie, że w badanym okresie 2006-2013 we wszystkich analizowanych regionach Polski: północno-zachodnim, południowo-zachodnim, północno-wschodnim i południowo-wschodnim, najwięcej ciągników zakupiono w grupach mocy 37-59 kW i 59-75 kW oraz o około połowę mniej w grupach mocy 75-90 i 90-118 kW. Jednak w Polsce Zachodniej, a zwłaszcza w regionie południowo-wschodnim, nabyto znacznie więcej ciągników nowych i używanych o mocy 18-75 kW. Ogólnie we wszystkich regionach zakupiono znacznie więcej ciągników używanych niż nowych w grupie mocy 37-59 kW, natomiast znacznie więcej ciągników nowych niż używanych w grupie mocy 59-75 kW. Suma mocy zakupionych ciągników była największa w regionie południowo-wschodnim przy najmniejszej ekwiwalentnej mocy średniej umownego ciągnika. W latach 2006-2013 wykazano nieduży (umiarkowany) trend wzrostowy ekwiwalentnej mocy średniej ciągników wprowadzanych do użytkowania tylko w regionach o najmniejszym nasyceniu mocą, tj. w regionie południowo-zachodnim i północno-wschodnim.

W artykule omówiono rozwiązania konstrukcyjne podstawowych zespołów współczesnego silnika spalinowego stosowanego w autobusach. Przybliżono rozwiązanie szczególnie tych zespołów, które pojawiły się w ostatnich latach głównie z tytułu potrzeby spełnienia norm dotyczących zawartości składników w spalinach, ale także tych, które decydują o osiągach silnika (jego mocy zużyciu paliwa). Artykuł zawiera zatem opisy takich zespołów i układów jak: tłokowo-korbowego, zasilania paliwem, zasilania powietrzem, doładowania silnika, recyrkulacji spalin, chłodzenia, hamulca silnikowego długotrwałego działania

The paper describes design solutions in basic subassemblies of modern combustion engines applied in buses. It emphasizes solutions of subassemblies that emerged in the last years from the need to conform with very strict emission limits as well as regulations relating to engine performances (power, fuel consumption). Therefore, the paper contains descriptions of such subassemblies and systems as: pistoncrank system, fuel delivery system, air delivery system, engine turbocharging system, exhaust gas recirculation system, cooling system, engine retarder system.

A major problem in the combustion diesel engines is the different distribution of the mixture of air and fuel and also temperatures inside the combustion chamber. It helps the formation of points of the high and low oxygen concentration in the combustion chamber of the engine. In areas with a high concentration of oxygen, the combustion process produces very harmful NOx, and in places with low oxygen concentration, as a result of incomplete fuel combustion particles are created in the form of soot. This not regular distribution of the mixture of air and fuel and temperatures in the combustion chamber affect the limited maximum engine power and efficiency at his every operating cycle. One method for improving the combustion process is feeding into the engine air with high relative humidity. The study was conducted on a chassis dynamometer at the Department of Vehicles Engineering Wroclaw University of Technology. For the purposes of the study determined the external characteristics, including maximum engine power and maximum engine torque at different air relative humidity and quite similar air temperature. Analysis of the results of research shows that high air relative humidity has a positive effect on the work parameters of the diesel engine.

The aim of tuning is to modify, improve selected parameters of the vehicle compared to the parameters, which are provided by the vehicle manufacturers in the various model lines. These changes according to individual wishes and financial possibilities have positive and negative effects on the properties and construction of the modified vehicle. The tuning adjustments have certain range of possibilities. Generally we can talk about engine modifications, and modifications of chassis and body. This paper addresses the issue of modification of a particular vehicle Subaru Impreza 2.5 WRX towards increasing engine power and the influence of the modification on the qualitative parameters of motor oil. New engines are controlled by the control unit and the control unit includes software which controls the operation cycle of the engine. The control software affects variables such as duration of injection, presure in fuel ramp, beginning of injection, injection pressure and many others, which depend on the type of engine. Based on these values, the engine is set to exact power parameters and at the same time to emission standards with sufficient tolerances.

Celem tuningu jest zmodyfikowanie lub poprawienie wybranych parametry pojazdu w porównaniu do parametrów, które są dostarczane przez producentów pojazdów w różnych liniach modelowych. Te zmiany, wykonywane według indywidualnych życzeń i możliwości finansowych właściciela pojazdu mają pozytywne i negatywne skutki dla eksploatacji zmodyfikowanego pojazdu. Korekty strojenia mają pewien zakres możliwości. Generalnie można mówić o modyfikacji silnika i modyfikacji podwozia i nadwozia. Referat omawia kwestię modyfikacji właściwości pojazdu Subaru Impreza 2.5 WRX pod kątem zwiększenia mocy silnika oraz wpływ tej modyfikacji na parametry jakościowe oleju silnikowego. Nowe silniki są sterowane przez jednostkę sterującą, która zawiera oprogramowanie sterujące cyklem pracy silnika. Oprogramowanie sterujące wpływa na parametry, takie jak czas trwania wtrysku, ciśnienie paliwa, początek wtrysku, ciśnienie wtrysku oraz wielu innych, które zależą od typu silnika. Opierając się na tych wartościach, silnik jest sterowany aby uzyskać odpowiednią moc i jednocześnie aby uzyskać odpowiednie wartości emisji zanieczyszczeń.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań silników z zapłonem samoczynnym, przeprowadzonych na hamowni inercyjnej. Badania wykazały, że silnik typu Y22DTR charakteryzuje się wyższą mocą oraz momentem obrotowym niż silnik typu AFN. Pomimo wyższego momentu obrotowego silnik Y22DTR posiada mniej korzystny zakres prędkości obrotowej wału korbowego, dla której moment obrotowy osiąga wartości zbliżone do maksymalnych. Uzyskane wyniki świadczą o tym, że układ korbowo-tłokowy silnika Y22DTR z uwagi na większy moment obrotowy i moc jest obciążony większymi siłami niż silnik AFN.

The article presents results of tests for self-ignition engines, carried out in inertial engine test house. The research has shown that Y22DTR type engine has more horsepower and higher torque than AFN type engine. In spite of higher torque, the Y22DTR engine offers less favourable range of crankshaft rotational speed, for which torque reaches values close to maximum. The results show that due to higher torque and horsepower, the assembly of crankshaft, pistons and connecting rods in the Y22DTR engine is subject to higher forces than the AFN engine.

Analiza rynku w wybranych krajach w latach 2000-2006 wykazała, że w sprzedaży ciągników na światowym rynku dominują obecnie Indie, USA, Japonia i Chiny. Liczby ciągników sprzedawanych w poszczególnych krajach cechują znaczne wahania w czasie, wywołane zmianami sytuacji ekonomicznej rolnictwa. Oprócz zmian ilościowych następują zmiany w strukturze sprzedawanych ciągników na korzyść ciągników o dużej mocy.

Analysis of agricultural tractor markets in selected contries within 2000-2006 showed that on the world market the leaders in tractors sale are actually represented by India, USA, Japan and China. The numbers of tractors sold in particular countries are characterized by substantial fluctuations in time, as affected by the changes of economic situation in agriculture. Apart from the quantitative changes, there occur some changes in the structure of tractors sale to advantage of the large size tractors.
