About 600 000 cubic meters of water are daily pumped out from the hard coal mines in the Upper Silesia Region. The temperature of that water range from 13 to 22°C. The thermal energy resources in the waters of the 55 coal mines were estimated (270 MJ per second). Under consideration, additionally, have been taken the thermal energy from the waters of the area of the 20 abandoned mines. The total resources of the geothermal energy estimated on 8•10[6] GJ. It means, that the thermal energy resources in mine waters are large and may be utilized for building heating, snow-melting and de-icing systems.
