The paper deals with the results of experiments on mixing in a vessel equipped with double impellers. The flat-bottomed vessel was equipped with the Rushton turbine (RT) or six flat blade turbines (FBT) or six pitched down blade turbines (PBT). The impellers were mounted symmetrically on the common shaft in various combinations of the two impellers. It has been found that the emulsification time of the oil phase decreases when the distance between the impellers increases. In this case, because of the smaller distance between the upper impeller and the oil phase, the hydrodynamic forces have greater influence. The lowest value of the emulsification time has been achieved for the vessel with the dual Rushton turbine (in comparison with the flat or pitched blade turbine).
