Artykuł poświęcony jest zagadnieniu związków deweyowskiej koncepcji doświadczenia estetycznego z szerszymi, metafizycznymi poglądami Amerykanina. Głównym celem prowadzonej argumentacji jest określenie roli, jaką pełni kategoria doświadczenia estetycznego w ramach empirycznego naturalizmu, stanowiska filozoficznego, jakie sformułował Dewey w późnym okresie swojej twórczości. Zaproponowana w artykule interpretacja deweyowskiej kategorii doświadczenia ujawnia zasadnicze implikacje metafizyczne, które w konsekwencji prowadzą do wyróżnienia wysublimowanej formy doświadczenia estetycznego i uznania jej za centralny element całej teorii. Wedle tego stanowiska doświadczenie estetyczne wyraża istotę rozwoju natury, siłę kreatywną wypływającą ze szczególnej, rytmicznej koordynacji wymian wzajemnego oddziaływania pomiędzy organizmem a jego otoczeniem. Według Deweya sztuka, której istotą jest doświadczenie estetyczne, wyraża najgłębsze zasady rozwijającego się życia i stanowi najwyższy przejaw natury. Autor niniejszego artykułu dowodzi, że proponowane przez Deweya stanowisko naturalizmu empirycznego, chociaż wyraźnie zmienia tradycyjne znaczenie metafizyki, to jednak nie marginalizuje jej jako dziedziny filozofii. Przeciwnie, rozwija przed nią nowe zagadnienia i ciekawe perspektywy.

The article deals with the issue of relations between Dewey’s idea of aesthetic experience and his account of metaphysics. The main aim of argumentation presented is to determine the role of the aesthetic experience in the field of natural empiricism, developed by Dewey in his late works. The interpretation of deweyan concept of experience, as proposed by the author, discloses the fundamental metaphysical implications, which in the long run entails distinguishing and favoring of the sublime form of aesthetic experience and regarding it as a central element of his whole theory. According to this position, the aesthetic experience expresses the essence of nature and the deepest spirit of its progress. It becomes the creative power originated from the specific sort of rhythmical coordination of mutual interactions between organism and its surroundings. From deweyan point of view, art expresses the deepest principles of advancing life and is seen as the highest manifestation of nature; as its climax. Author argues, that Dewey’s position of natural empiricism, however significantly changes the traditional meaning of metaphysics, it takes no efforts to push it aside as a philosophic discipline. On the contrary, Dewey’s processual metaphysics of experience raises new issues and proposes interesting perspective of reflection.

In the paper one tried to analyse the methodological views in the context of relations between theory and empiricism. The point of issue to the analysis is rational action and the purpose of science is true with Tarsky's conventionality. These premises causes a number of the cognitive methodological complications. To point out these complications and some solutions are main purpose of this paper.
