Among the fundamental factors affecting the emissions of internal combustion engines is the resistance to motion acting on the car. This is an important factor to be taken into account when testing cars in conditions simulated on a chassis dynamometer. The dependence of the driving resistance function on vehicle speed is determined on the basis of various methods, the most frequently used of which is the so-called alternative method specified in procedures for the type approval of motor vehicles with respect to the emission of pollutants in exhaust gases. The values adopted in accordance with the alternative method differ from the actual resistance acting on the car in road conditions. This is one of the reasons why the emission of pollutants and the fuel consumption of an engine in real road conditions differs from the values given by the car manufacturer, including the emission limits specified in the standards. This paper presents an evaluation of the influence of driving resistance on the energy demand and emission of pollutants in the exhaust gases by sample passenger car with SI engine fuelled by petrol and LPG.

The article presents calculations of exhaust emissions and fuel consumption under test conditions on a chassis dynamometer test bench. The study describes the realization of the tests and the methodology of the calculation of the exhaust gas flow and the estimation of the fuel consumption based on exhaust emissions. The presented research results and their analysis describe the emission scale of selected gaseous fumes components during full engine load and the fuel consumption associated with such tests. Similar emissions occur during a rapid acceleration of a vehicle in road conditions.

The aim of the research outlined in this paper is to evaluate thermal spray processes like Atmospheric Plasma Spraying (APS) for the protection and upgrade of aluminium particularly for the low cost and flexible manufacture of automotive components. A great demand for automobile fuels due to increased rate of consumption and necessity of provide clean air environment in coming years. The automobile industry not only to find alternative fuel sources but also looking for fuel economic and eco friendly vehicles. Thermal spray coatings are depositions of materials which has been melted or plasticized immediately prior to projection onto the substrate. The thermal barrier coating is done on the piston for reducing the emission and thereby improving the efficiency of the internal combustion engine. The Alumina and Silicon Carbide particle were used as coating materials and the effect of the both on the emission and mileage is reported in this paper.

W artykule przedstawiono ocenę ekologiczną samochodów osobowych, którą dokonano na podstawie opracowanego testu, używanego do pomiaru emisji zanieczyszczeń w rzeczywistych warunkach ruchu. W stosowanych modelach całkowitej emisji spalin z transportu, wskaźniki emisji zanieczyszczeń są przyjmowane na podstawie wartości dopuszczalnych, określonych w normach emisji spalin. W takim przypadku wyniki uzyskane z modeli matematycznych są jedynie wartościami, których zastosowanie jest ograniczone do wartości teoretycznych. Konieczne jest zatem poszukiwanie nowych możliwości oceny emisji spalin pojazdów. Rozwiązaniem przedstawionego zagadnienia są pomiary wykonywane w rzeczywistych warunkach ruchu pojazdów, w których wykorzystywane są przenośne systemy pomiaru emisji zanieczyszczeń. Badania prowadzone na Politechnice Poznańskiej z użyciem tej metody są próbą odpowiedzi na pytania dotyczące rzeczywistej emisji zanieczyszczeń, ich zmienności odpowiadające zmiennym parametrom pracy silników i pojazdów. Przedstawione wyniki badań oraz wyznaczone wskaźniki uzyskano na podstawie kilkuletnich pomiarów zanieczyszczeń z pojazdów o różnej klasie emisyjnej oraz różnych parametrach technicznych i technologicznych.

This paper presents the preliminary concept research to develop the test used in the measurement of emissions in real traffic conditions for passenger vehicles. In the applied models of total exhaust emissions from transport, the emission rate is adopted based on maximum admissible values prescribed in an exhaust emission homologation standard. In such a scenario, the results obtained from the models are only estimates, whose applicability may be restricted. It is thus necessary to seek new possibilities to assess vehicle exhaust emissions such as real driving measurements. The measurements are performed under vehicle actual operating conditions and they use the PEMS (Portable Emission Measurement System) equipment. The research carried out at Poznan University of Technology with the use of this method attempts to answer questions regarding the exhaust emissions, their variability and relation to the engine and vehicle operating parameters. The paper presents several vehicles investigated for exhaust emissions under actual traffic conditions – RDE (Real Driving Emissions).

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań emisji wybranych związków toksycznych silnika 4CT90 zasilanego klasycznym olejem napędowym i estrami oleju lnianki oraz biopaliwem B100. Badania przeprowadzono w oparciu o wymagania testów ETC, ESC oraz NRTC.

The paper presents exhaust emissions of some toxic compounds measured on the 4CT90 engine fueled with classical diesel fuel and methyl esters of cameline-seed oil and biofuel B100. Research was done using procedures corresponding to test ETC, ESC and NRTC.
