Bryła budynku i jego elewacja to ważne elementy przestrzeni kształtowane przez architektów. Forma obu tych elementów jest fascynującym „detalem” otaczającej nas przestrzeni, który tworzy klimat danego miejsca. Obecnie elewacja stała się inteligentną powłoką, obudową wnętrza o określonej funkcji. Współczesne elewacje oddają nie tylko indywidualny zamysł estetyczny architekta, ale również stanowią odzwierciedlenie wszechstronnej wiedzy i postępu materiałowo-technologicznego. Jest to wypadkowa solidnej wiedzy zespołów nie tylko z dziedziny architektury. W artykule podjęto próbę systematyki materiałowej i trendów w tej dziedzinie.

The body of the building and related elevations are important elements of space shaped by architects. The form of both of these elements is a fascinating "detail" of the space that surrounds us, which creates the atmosphere of a given place. Currently, the facade has become an intelligent coating, an interior cladding with a specific function. Contemporary facades reflect not only the individual aesthetic sense of the architect. It is also a reflection of comprehensive knowledge as well as material and technological progress, it is the result of solid knowledge of the teams not only in the field of architecture. The article attempts to modest systematics of materials and interest in trends in this field.

Research consisting in the analysis, definition of parameters of a high degree of energy efficiency with a guaranteed share of renewable energy is of particular importance in the implementation of the concept of sustainable development. In Vienna, there have been built buildings whose construction and operation inscribe into an extensive research programme that includes an energy management strategy according to the latest standards developed for energy-efficient construction. These buildings, which are represented by research and educational institutions, are a kind of research field for new technologies and solutions to optimise energy consumption. In architectural terms, the implementation of photovoltaic façades signals the high technological level of prototype solutions. The Author’s research methodology was based on the analysis of data characterizing new and modernized buildings, carried out on the basis of current internet sources, literature data and local visions during her study trip to Vienna. The aim of the paper is to present the energy concept of buildings, used to optimize energy acquisition and consumption, as a signpost for the application of guidelines and standards in possible Polish solutions.
