Planned obsolescence (PO) is a policy of planning, designing and manufacturing products with limited serviceable life. It has become an indispensable companion for today's economy, causing a lot of ethical and ecological controversy and stands in opposition to the strategy of sustainable development. The article presents environmental hazards resulting from the application of this strategy, draws attention to the widespread use of PO, with particular focus at the electronics industry. The range of activities and procedures used in the design and manufacture of products resulting from planned obsolescence was described. It was found that this strategy determinates the way of future business, obliging the engineers to design and produce goods according to planned obsolescence guidelines. This strategy brings profits to corporation, not paying attention to consumers and the environment.

Artykuł dotyczy zarządzania ochroną środowiska w przedsiębiorstwie produkującym obwody drukowane. Opisuje podstawowe problemy o.ś. występujące w branży i wskazówki do zorganizowanego sposobu ich rozwiązywania przy użyciu metody Czystszej Produkcji. W artykule opisano przykłady wytypowanych tą metodą i zrealizowanych projektów ograniczania emisji odorów i tlenku węgla do atmosfery, niklu do ścieków, ograniczania ilości osadów pozostałych po neutralizacji ścieków.

The article refers to issues of environmental management at the plant manufacturing PCBs. It discusses the basie issues of environmental protection and related to the sector, as well as instructions for organised way of solving such issues by adopting Cleaner Production method. In the article examples arę described of emission reduction projects selected and implemented by adopting that method, with regard to emissions of odours and carbon oxide to atmosphere, nickel to sewage, and reduction of post-neutralization sewage sediments.

The electronics industry moves quickly, leading to the production of critical electronic parts being discontinued due to obsolescence each year. In addition, supporting a weapon system for 30-40 years is a major challenge in the defense community. Whether the problem is that the manufacturer no longer produces the components necessary to maintain these systems or materials are no longer available, innovative solutions are required to increase the effectiveness for both industry and defense organizations to meet this and other Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) challenges.

Przedstawiono genezę problemu, uzasadniono konieczność ochrony ze zwróceniem uwagi na ekonomiczną stronę zagadnienia. Podano przykład współczesnego, kompleksowego wyposażenia stanowiska pracy, spełniającego wymagania odnośnie ochrony ESD.
