The influence of the capacitor configuration in the pulse supply system for rail accelerators on its efficiency was investigated in the paper. Two different configurations were compared: the first with a parallel connection of capacitors and the second with a parallel-series connection. In both cases, the same number of capacitors was assumed. All other parameters of the device were kept constant, i.e. mass and dimensions of the armature, rail length and stator geometry. A field-circuit model was used to analyse numerically the transients for different capacitor configurations and voltage values. The model was verified experimentally.

Dynamic characteristics for three types of railgun constructions were simulated and measured in this work. The simplest construction is the iron-less (IL) railgun, while the two other ones (IC and ICPM) have an iron-core. The iron-core permanent magnet (ICPM) railgun additionally has permanent magnets. To compare their characteristics, similar dimensions of the rails and iron cores were adopted, and the same power supply system was used. Numerical magnetic field analyses and our analytical models have been used to determine the electromagnetic parameters. They were verified experimentally. The transient states of the railguns were studied with our field-circuit mathematical model, and their results were also verified by experiments.

Multivariate calculations of the electrodynamic accelerator with a permanent magnet support and a ferromagnetic core are presented in the paper. The calculations were made with using the Magnetostatic module of Maxwell/ANSYS software. The purpose of these calculations was to determine the size and location of permanent magnets in terms of maximizing the force acting on the projectile. In the presented paper, three cases have been analyzed. In order to perform a comparative analysis of the obtained results of calculations, dimensions of the rails, projectile and outer dimensions of the core were kept constant.

The most popular constructions of the power supply systems for electrodynamic accelerators (railguns) have been compared and presented in the paper. The construction of the system for the supply depends mostly on application of the railgun. The main part of the paper concerns the systems of high energy and high peak current intensity. An example of the original power source has been presented as well.

The analysis of phenomena occurring in the railway accelerator (railgun) has been presented in the paper. The analytical and numerical models have been used. The formulas describing the forces acting on the accelerated element (bullet) for different models of the accelerator have been derived. The dimensions of rails and bullet for each model have been assumed to be the same. In case of numerical calculations the finite element method has been used. For a chosen accelerator type the field-circuit model has been made with using MATLAB-Simulink software. The selected model has been verified experimentally.

W artykule przedstawiono analizę zjawisk zachodzących w akceleratorze szynowym. Wykorzystano zarówno modele analityczne, jak i numeryczne. Otrzymano wzory opisujące siły działające na element przyspieszany (pocisk) dla różnych modeli akceleratora. Przyjęto identyczne wymiary szyn i pocisku dla każdego modelu. W przypadku obliczeń numerycznych wykorzystano metodę elementów skończonych. Dla wybranego typu akceleratora wykonano model polowo-obwodowy z wykorzystaniem oprogramowania MATLAB-Simulink. Model ten został zweryfikowany pomiarowo.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki obliczeń numerycznych dla 3 modeli (typów) akceleratorów szynowych. Wymiary szyn i elementu ruchomego zostały w poszczególnych modelach zachowane. W obliczeniach wykorzystano metodę elementów skończonych. Dla wybranego typu akceleratora wykonano model polowo-obwodowy w programie Matlab-Simulink, który zweryfikowano pomiarowo.
