The corrosion behavior of austempered ductile iron (ADI) in acidic environment bas been investigated at the microscaleby means of the electrochemical microcell technique, surface analysis methods and at the macroscale using the classical electrochemical techniques. Local electrochemical investigations have revealed that the matrix (ausferrite), far from spheres, under-goes anodic dissolution in IM NaClO4, pH=3 solution. The classical electrochemical measurements have exhibited that the corrosion inhibitors like molybdate binder the anodic dissolution of alloys. Surface observations combined with the local electrochemical analysis have shown that the corrosion of ADI first occurs in the close vicinity of same graphite spheres and then around oxide inclusions. The surface observations (SEM) with inhibitors have shown that the surface layer consists of iron oxide, molybdenum oxide is formed. These mixture of oxides binder the anodic dissolution of ADI.
