The gabions with plants are being used in the engineering activities linked to environmental protection - e.g. biological filters, ecological barriers and ecotone buffer zones. The proposals of plants and gabions applying refer to the dry, properly moistened and wet habitats. The criteria of plant species choice for different engineering purposes were as follow: the availability and low costs of plant material, environmental values and sanitation features, morphology and physiology adequate to the engineering and ecological functions.
