The hydrologic and environmental studies were carried out in the middle Wkra river natural and reclaimed sections. The reclamation caused the unbending of the riverbed route but did not caused the disappearance of typical, repeatable river microhabitats. The reclaimed sections are only a little bit less environmentally valuable than natural ones. The vertebrate and invertebrate fauna are very similar in the both section types. The important floristic differences were repoited - the numbers of plant species in natural sections exceeded such numbers in reclaimed sections by more than two times. The authors share the opinion, that the river reclamation does not always cause the impoverishing of its communities, if only the works will be done in „environmental friendly” way and will not destroy the typical riverbed microhabitats.
