Celem niniejszego artykułu było zbadanie możliwości i efektów wsparcia zadań gmin w zakresie ochrony środowiska w ramach PROW 2007-2013, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zakresu, formy i efektów przedmiotowego wsparcia w województwie podlaskim.

The Rural Development Programme for 2007-2013 is an important instrument of support of the communes of Podlasie Voivodeship in environmental protection. In order to determine the scale and effectiveness of the provided support, three selected areas of intervention of operation number 321 - Basic services for the economy and rural population were analyzed, namely: investments related to water and wastewater management, creating a system of collection, segregation and disposal of municipal waste and the production or distribution of energy from renewable sources. The results of research and analysis indicates that the implementation of measure 321 contributed to the improvement in environmental protection in rural areas, contributing positively to the improvement of standard of living by their residents, by improving the quality of water, air and soil. However, far too little support has been granted to investments in renewable energy, which will have a negative impact on reducing emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
