Non-invasive cortical stimulation techniques are promising tools in the arsenal against refractory chronic pain. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation can produce analgesic effects, leading to consideration of this technique as a therapeutic tool per se or as a prognostic tool to select candidates for subsequent implanted epidural motor cortex stimulation. This review focuses on the optimal parameters of stimulation, including the cortical target, coil orientation, stimulation intensity and frequency. The long-lasting effects of consecutive daily sessions and the possibility for ameliorating specific components of pain are also discussed.

The effect of rats' whole-body cooling on their reactivity to the thermal nociceptive stimulus was determined by means of a hot-plate test. It has been found that a single exposure and a four time daily exposure to a cold temperature (-90° C) induced a significant antinociceptive effect. A possible mechanism of this effect was discussed.

Określano wpływ schładzania ciała szczurów na termiczny bodziec bólowy w teście gorącej płytki. Wykazano, że zarówno jednorazowa, jak i powtarzana codziennie przez cztery dni ekspozycja na niską temperaturę (-90°C) wywoływała znamienny efekt przeciwbólowy. Przedyskutowano prawdopodobne mechanizmy tego zjawiska.

Praca niniejsza poświęcona jest ocenie efektywności oddziaływania promieniowania laserowego z zakresu podczerwieni w leczeniu przeciwbólowym. Efekt przeciwbólowa w badaniach klinicznych oceniano na podstawie podwójnej ślepej próby. Stwierdzono zmniejszenie dolegliwości bólowych i mniejszą częstotliwość występowania stanów bólowych, a także ograniczenie przyjmowania leków przeciwbólowych u pacjentów leczonych promieniowaniem laserowym, w stosunku do grupy, u której nie wdrożono tego rodzaju leczenia.

Efficacy of infrared laserotherapy was examined basing on the evaluation of the analgesic effect. The analgesic effect was evaluated after the double blind clinical trial. As the result of the therapy patients announced the significant decrease of the pain and its frequency, as well. The decreased intake of the analgesic media was also reported compare to the group of patients not treated by laser radiation.
