The paper describes the history, formation and development of electrochemistry at the Maria Curie-Sklodowska University. It profiles the first researchers in this field of chemistry and the history of the establishment of the present Department of Analytical Chemistry, where electrochemistry has developed intensively and is still practised today. Also presented are the most important scientific achievements of the researchers and the research directions in electrochemistry currently being developed at the Institute of Chemical Sciences.
