Studenci i nauczyciele wobec multimediów: studium przypadku dla kierunku budownictwo

W pracy przedstawione zostały wyniki dwóch ankiet przeprowadzonych w styczniu 2019 na Wydziale Inżynierii Lądowej Politechniki Warszawskiej. Pierwsza z nich dotyczyła oceny przez studentów przydatności różnych rodzajów materiałów dydaktycznych. Druga obejmowała pytania do nauczycieli dotyczące wykorzystania możliwości nagrywania wykładów. Studenci akceptują materiały w postaci multimediów, preferują jednak uczenie się na pamięć gotowych rozwiązań lub odpowiedzi na pytania. Nauczyciele są raczej przeciwni i niechętnie nastawieni do nagrywania wykładów. Czy oznacza to, że na uczelniach wyższych należy powrócić do starych i sprawdzonych szkolnych metod kształcenia?

The paper presents the results of two surveys conducted in January 2019 at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology. The first one concerned the students' assessment of the suitability of different types of teaching materials. The second included questions for teachers about using the possibility of recording lectures. Students accept materials in the form of multimedia, but prefer learning ready solutions or answers to the questions by heart. The teachers are rather reluctant and unwilling to record lectures. Does this mean that universities should return to old and tested school methods of education? The educational crisis has many reasons and causes, and concerns both a form and a content. From year to year, candidates for studies at the technical university are getting worse prepared in mathematics and physics. What's more, it is more and more difficult for them to make up for gaps in knowledge and skills, mainly due to bad educational habits. This situation is the reason why only 60% of those admitted to the university finish the first year. The case study concerns the studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology. Students' research was conducted in the context of classes in Computer Science. As part of the course, students learn the principles of creating readable multimedia presentations, editing scientific and technical texts, conducting engineering calculations in a spreadsheet, and using the Computer Algebra System computer program to conduct and program calculations. The educational platform and multimedia are used in conducting the classes.

Building a clinical case reports database to facilitate case-based learning and improve critical thinking of medical students

This paper reports on development of our unified case reports database for medical students. The primary aim was to share professionals' clinical knowledge and skills through one of the most traditional medical experiences sharing form based on modern and anywhere available web services and technologies. Doing so, the clinical case reports that still play an invaluable role in case-based learning and in building of ability of students to think critically, can be used not only to learn and practice theoretical and practical consequences of clinicians' decisions, but also to prepare students for bedside teaching. To develop a generally acceptable system, we had to specify both the structure of education suitable materials and the platform for simple creation and sharing of such electronic outputs. As the result, the database of first clinical case reports was implemented into the information technologies infrastructure at Faculty of medicine in Kosice, Slovakia. It is offered to medical students in the form of web-based portal.

W artykule przedstawiono autorski program nauczania specjalistycznego języka angielskiego dla studentów pierwszego roku na kierunkach „Bezpieczeństwo przeciwpożarowe” i „Obrona cywilna” oraz podręcznik do niego. Dużą uwagę poświęcono wiedzy specjalistycznej, jaką studenci zdobywają równolegle na zajęciach z innych przedmiotów. Opisano kurs języka angielskiego „English for Rescuers”, w którym zwrócono uwagę na praktyczne ćwiczenia obejmujące wprowadzenie i opanowanie leksyki oraz gramatyki, a także biegłość w stosowaniu języka zawodowego w mowie.

Today the knowledge of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) is very important in every profession. There are a lot of educational materials on various topics in various specialities. The article presents the author’s curriculum of a foreign language for professional purposes for the first year students on the “Fire Safety” and “Civil Defence” majors. A lot of attention is paid to specialized knowledge which students gain from other professionally directed subjects. The textbook “English for Rescuers” is also introduced. This textbook focuses on practical exercises both in mastering the professionally directed vocabulary and grammar, as well as the fluency in speaking.

Każdy sposób kształcenia wymaga dostępu do materiałów dydaktycznych. Tradycyjne metody przekazywania i pozyskiwania wiedzy nie są już wystarczające. W opracowywaniu materiałów dydaktycznych oraz w procesie dydaktycznym rośnie rola zdjęć, obrazów, filmów, technologii multimedialnych. Celem pracy było wytworzenie aplikacji prezentującej w postaci multimedialnej rasy bydła mięsnego oraz zagadnienia z zakresu ich chowu i hodowli. Jednym z głównych założeń było przedstawienie dostępnego materiału merytorycznego w postaci innej niż tekst. W związku z tym opracowano zestaw symboli prezentujących charakterystykę ras oraz wytworzono aplikację, w której zostały one wykorzystane. Aplikacja i przyjęta zasada minimalizacji tekstu zostały wysoko ocenione przez grupę testujących ją studentów. Przedstawianie materiału merytorycznego za pomocą obrazów ułatwia człowiekowi jego zapamiętywanie, a ze względu na powszechną globalizację powinno zapewniać rozumienie niezależnie od używanego języka. Wytworzona aplikacja może zostać wykorzystana jako obiekt wiedzy w kursach e-learningowych, a jej opublikowanie w Internecie pozwoli zdobyć informacje o wartości tak przygotowanego materiału.

The aim of this work was to develop a multimedia application which presents information on beef cattle. Traditional methods of passing and obtaining knowledge are not sufficient. The function of images, photos, films, multimedia technologies is becoming greater in preparation of didactic materials. The objective of the paper was to create an application in the multimedia form presenting beef cattle breeds and issues related to their breeding and farming. One if the main assumption was to present available substantive material in the form other than text. Therefore a set of symbols for characterizing beef cattle breeds was created. The developed application uses these symbols. Using symbols, pictures etc. in educational materials helps learning and makes the materials more comprehensible, no matter of the language used by pupils. This article presents the created set of symbols and the application called "Multimedia atlas of beef cattle".
