The abandoned copper mine in the Moldova Noua area is still producing mining pollution today due to the drying of tailings ponds and the carrying of contaminated dust by the winds, leading to potential contamination of surface waters and groundwaters. The purpose of this study is the assessment of some surface waters and groundwaters potentially contaminated by mining pollutants from Moldova Noua area regarding their hydrochemical and ecotoxicological properties. The physicochemical parameters (pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity) were determined in situ, with the concentrations of heavy metals (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn) being determined in the laboratory. Inhibition of acid phosphatase enzymatic activity and yeast toxicity tests were the two ecotoxicological tests used for the evaluation of mining pollution effects on the quality of surface waters and groundwater. The results highlighted that most of the physicochemical parameters and heavy metal concentrations were within normal limits. With the exception of the surface water sample collected from the Bosneag River, upstream of Moldova Noua, all samples induced inhibition compared to the positive control in the ecotoxicological tests applied. Statistically significant correlations were observed, with the total concentration of iron ions presenting the most statistically significant correlations with other parameters. A grading scale was used to assess the state of the waters, highlighting the weak impact of mining pollutants on the analysed samples.

The paper is focused on the research of ecotoxicological properties of mortar prisms produced with partial cement replacement by ash from energy recovery of municipal waste. Two types of ash were used: ash from incineration and ash from municipal waste gasification. According to the Waste Catalogue, ash is considered other waste, which is non-hazardous and nowadays it is predominantly landfilled. Negative results of standardized biotests are inevitable precondition for the use of ash for construction products. The results from both biotests (acute toxicity test on aquatic organisms Daphnia magna and growth inhibition test of higher cultivated plants Sinapis alba) confirmed suitability of cement replacement by ash from energy recovery of municipal waste. Environmental safety of produced mortar prisms is different. Recommended replacement of cement with ash, obtained from municipal waste gasification, is 10% and with ash gained from incineration is 15%. The use of this type of waste in construction industry will lead to the decrease of landfilled waste. Due to the replacement of cement with waste (from industrial branches) natural resources of raw materials used in the process of cement production are saved.

Content available Ecotoxicity of ionic liquids as lubricants
EN
In this article there is discussed the influence of ionic liquids on natural environment on the basis of detailed analysis of the literature information and the results of the Authors' researches carried out within the framework of the development and research project no. PBR/15-249/2007/WAT-OR00002904 financed by Ministry of Science and Higher Education during 2007-2011. The literature information about toxic features of ionic liquids is very skimpy, but the detailed analysis of it and the results of our own researches allow us to say that not all ionic liquids should be treated as fully environmentally friendly substances. Among these substances, there are non-toxic and moderately toxic but there are very toxic liquids, too. Therefore, uncritical rating all ionic liquids among Green Chemistry is inappropriate. The test results of ionic liquids ecotoxicity were compared with the results obtained for standard oils used at lubrication technologies, particularly at motorization. All reference oils, according to EU classification, were non-toxic. The tests were carried out in accordance with OECD 202 European normative document, which recommends carrying out the tests for Daphnia Magna crustaceans. There were carried out: acute immobilization tests to Daphnia Magna, calculation of the effective concentrations EC50-t and evaluation of ionic and reference liquids toxicity with regard to used bioindicators
