W artykule omówione zostały problemy dotyczące infrastruktury transportu drogowego wschodniej Polski, w tym województw: mazowieckiego i lubelskiego, na przykładzie biegnącej przez te województwa autostrady A2. Przedstawiono argumenty, że powstająca w II Paneuropejski Korytarzu Transportowym infrastruktura drogowa jest kluczowym czynnikiem bezpieczeństwa i rozwoju gospodarczego wschodniej Polski a także istotnym elementem bezpieczeństwa ekonomicznego, gospodarczego, społecznego i militarnego całego naszego kraju.

The article discusses problems related to the road transport infrastructure of Eastern Poland, including the following provinces: Mazowieckie and Lubelskie, on the example of the A2 motorway running through these provinces. Arguments were presented that the road infrastructure emerging in the Pan-European Transport Corridor II is a key factor in the security and economic development of Eastern Poland and an important element of our country's economic, social and military security.

Artykuł omawia kwestie związane z infrastrukturą transportową, przede wszystkim drogową, w aspekcie rozwoju obszarów rdzeniowych i peryferyjnych na przykładzie Polski Wschodniej. Omówiono kwestie znaczenia granicy dla regionu Polski Wschodniej i konsekwencje jej uszczelnienia w związku z faktem, iż od końca 2007 roku jest to także wschodnia, zewnętrzna granica całej Wspólnoty Europejskiej. Omówione zostały cechy regionów rdzeniowych oraz peryferyjnych z położeniem nacisku na kwestie infrastrukturalne. Przedstawiono również kilka teorii analizujących tworzenie się regionów centralnych i peryferyjnych uwypuklających kwestie infrastrukturalno-transportowe, które mają wpływ na rozwój regionalny.

This article discusses issues related to transport infrastructure, mainly road infrastructure, in terms of the development of core and peripheral areas on the example of Eastern Poland. The importance of border for situation in the Eastern Poland has been discussed and consequences of border control tightening in view of the fact that since the end of 2007 this border is also the eastern border of the whole European Community. The features of the core and peripheral areas with the emphasis on infrastructural issues were discussed. Several theories analyzing the formation of the central and peripheral areas were presented, especially these which underline issues connected with infrastructure and transport that have an impact on regional development.
