Modern IT and teaching solutions are increasingly used in the distance learning process. The introduction of game ele-ments in the e-learning allows to increase the interest and motivation of the user when performing tasks. The "Quizer" e-learning platform has been designed to create interactive multimedia courses with elements of gameplay, including the multiplayer format. The paper discusses the technologies and tools used to build the platform. An example of a game designed in a multiplayer format is presented.

W procesie kształcenia na odległość coraz częściej stosowane są nowoczesne rozwiązania informatyczne i dydaktyczne. Wprowadzenie do e-learningu elementów rozgrywki pozwala na zwiększenie zainteresowania i motywacji użytkownika podczas wykonywania stawianych mu zadań. Platforma e-learningowa „Quizer” powstała z myślą tworzenia interaktywnych kursów multimedialnych z elementami rozgrywki, w tym w formacie multiplayer. W pracy omówiono zastosowane do budowy platformy technologie i narzędzia. Przedstawiono przykład gry wykonanej w formacie multiplayer.

Processing massive data amounts and Big Data became nowadays one of the most significant problems in computer science. The difficulties with education on this field arise, the appropriate teaching methods and tools are needed. The processing of vast amounts of data arriving quickly requires the choice and arrangement of extended hardware platforms. In the paper we will show an approach for teaching students in Big Data and also the choice and arrangement of an appropriate programming platform for Big Data laboratories. Usage of an e-learning platform Moodle, a dedicated platform for teaching, could allow the teaching staff and students an improved contact with by enhancing mutually communication possibilities. We will show the preparation of Hadoop platform tools and Big Data cluster based on Cloudera and Ambari. The both solutions together could enable to cope with the problems in education of students in the field of Big Data.

The overall idea and sources of funding are described. An example of using, based on field oriented control method of induction machine, has been given.

Artykuł dotyczy tematyki nauczania napędu elektrycznego za pomocą opracowanej wirtualnej platformy nauczania ePEDlab. Stanowi on uzupełnienie do artykułu prezentującego ideę platformy ePEDlab [1]. W pracy skupiono się na zagadnieniach związanych z środowiskiem do modelowania GeckoCIRCUITS oraz opracowanymi modelami symulacyjnymi. Przedstawiono tu właściwości oprogramowania GeckoCIRCUITS, opisano udostępnione za pomocą platformy modele symulacyjne, a następnie, dla wybranych dwóch przykładów, przedstawiono program ćwiczeń symulacyjnych i dostępne w GeckoCIRCUITS narzędzia do analizy wyników symulacji.

The article presents selected aspects of electric drive teaching methods using ePEDlab – the developed virtual educational platform. It is a suplement to an article presenting the idea of an ePEDlab platform [1]. The work focuses on issues related to GeckoCIRCUITS software and developed simulation models. It presents GeckoCIRCUITS software features and provided by the platform simulation models. Then two selected models are described.

The article presents attempts to identify the needs and problems of modern e-learning and designed a solution that meets the needs of the recipients of e-learning and e-learning content providers. On the basis of this analysis, it was found that the market lacks the e-learning platform that meets all the needs and requirements in remote education. E-learning systems are very poor functionally, and tools for achieving the objectives, such as content creation, content distribution, management learning, and synchronous online meetings appear as separate applications that do not necessarily work well together. Most often each of them must be used separately that extends the preparation of training materials, and is a burden in the administration and supervision of the training course. On the basis of the analysis of remote training needs of recipients and creators of content proposed solution supporting distance learning. On the basis of the analysis of literature and research of user behavior designed and developed an integrated e-learning platform that meets the expectations of the users. The system has successfully motivating tool to complete training and does not require expensive implementation. The main objective of the proposed system was to eliminate the disadvantages observed in other systems. It was found that the human factor impeding the effective acquisition of knowledge as lack of motivation for self-study and the lack of contact with the teacher. In order to minimize the impact of these factors on the educational goals proposed solutions such as elements of competition and extensive virtual classrooms.

Our university’s Learning Management System had been ready for use for two years or so, but largely ignored by most of the teachers at our language centre. The situation changed when the real need to try it appeared. We were asked to meet a new requirement – namely, to cover for our temporarily absent colleagues, sometimes at a moment’s notice. It seemed a good solution to harness our Learning Management System, or Pegasus, to help us do that. A year has passed since then, and the scheme is working – helping us very well. Hopefully, it all happens without “shortchanging” the students. In this paper, as one of the participants in the scheme, I will present the story of how we managed – not without a few hurdles – to turn our LMS into a useful, everyday tool in our language centre.

Platforma edukacyjna na naszym uniwersytecie była dostępna od co najmniej dwóch lat, ale przeważnie ignorowana przez większość lektorów, prowadzących zajęcia w Jagiellońskim Centrum Językowym. Sytuacja zmieniła się z chwilą, kiedy pojawiła się rzeczywista potrzeba jej wykorzystania, a mianowicie konieczność zapewnienia krótkoterminowych zastępstw, czasem dosłownie z dnia na dzień. Okazało się, że można w tym celu ‘zaprząc’ Pegaza, czyli naszą uniwersytecką platformę edukacyjną. Od tego czasu minął rok i Pegaz znakomicie się sprawdza. Wydaje się, że nie tracą na tym również nasi studenci. Artykuł ma na celu opisanie jak udało się nam zamienić mało wykorzystywaną platformę w bardzo przydatne narzędzie, z którego korzystamy na co dzień w naszym centrum językowym.

The article discusses legal aspects of managing e-learning platforms in schools and universities. The authors focus on legal regulations of personal data protection in e-learning platforms in Poland. In most cases e-learning platforms are managed by network administrators who are not aware of legal regulations which they should follow. To the best of our knowledge one can find a variety of publications concerning technical and administrative aspects of e-learning platforms but no analysis has been performed concerning legal aspects of deploying and managing e-learning platforms. In this article we indicate the most important issues which e-learning platform administrators should be aware of.

W artykule przedstawiono rozwiązania dotyczące poprawy i wzrostu efektywności zarządzania działalności studentów na zajęciach z użyciem narzędzi internetowych. Za pomocą tych rozwiązań studenci mogą mieć zawsze i wszędzie swobodny dostęp w informacji, takich jak: kursy, wirtualne materiały laboratoryjne, opisy badań oraz statystyki. Następnie przedstawiono wybrane wyniki badań i przykłady platform e-learningowych stosowanych w Rumunii. W eksperymencie naukowym zastosowano techniki grup równoległych (4 grupy studentów drugiego roku, 2 grupy tworzące zespół eksperymentalny, dla których były używane kursy multimedialne do procesu szkolenia, i 2 grupy kontrolne). Przeprowadzone badania potwierdziły hipotezę o pozytywnym wpływie realizacji kursów multimedialnych w procesie nauczania grup eksperymentalnych i efektywności stosowanych metod.

In this article, we presented a solution for improving and rising the management efficiency of the students’ activities for the courses in the current semester, using Web Technologies. Moreover, using this solution given by the described application, students of any faculty can have anytime and anywhere access to information such as: courses materials, virtual labs materials, marks given for partial or final tests, statistics regarding the scholar situations. Then, we presented some statistics and examples of e-learning platforms realized in Romania. In this scientific experiment we applied the technique of parallel groups which supposes the implication of 4 groups of second year students, 2 groups forming the experimental team for whom the multimedia courses for training process were used and 2 control groups for whom teaching was made in the traditional system. The application of the statistical methods of processing experimental data attested the hypotheses about the positive impact of the implementation of the multimedia courses in teaching- learning process in the experimental groups and the efficiency of the applied methods to the experimental groups, compared to traditional methods, applied to control groups.

W latach 2011-2012 realizowany był na Wydziale Elektrotechniki i Informatyki (WEiI) Politechniki Lubelskiej projekt POKL „Absolwent na miarę czasu” skierowany do studentów studiów magisterskich kierunku Informatyka. Wśród celów realizowanego projektu ważne miejsce zajmuje utworzona platforma e-learningowa. W niniejszym artykule omówiono obecny stan wykorzystania platformy, zaprezentowano wyniki badań przeprowadzonych wśród studentów dotyczących: poziomu wiedzy studentów o nauczaniu na odległość, oceny stworzonej platformy oraz przydatności materiałów na niej umieszczonych.

One of the most important objectives of the project is implementation of e-learning platform. The article discusses the current state of the use of the platform, presents the results of the survey conducted among students regarding: the level of students’ knowledge of distance learning, assessment of created platform as well as assessment developed learning resources.

Automatyczna adaptacja narzędzi e-learningowych do wymagań poszczególnych użytkowników VLE (Virtual learning environment) wspomaga proces dydaktyczny. Adaptacja następuje podczas poznawania oraz analizy informacji zebranych w trakcie sesji z użytkownikiem. Analizie podlega bogata gama informacji. Celem artykułu jest zdefiniowanie wybranych danych statystycznych, przekazywanych przez system, do odpowiednich algorytmów analizy. Zaprezentowano koncepcję Kolektora i Analizatora. Wskazane zostały wybrane elementy, dzięki którym każdy system e-learningowy może stać się bezpieczniejszy oraz bardziej efektywny dla kursantów. W wyniku przetworzenia zebranych informacji można uzyskać specyficzne dla konkretnego użytkownika zachowania platformy e-learningowej, wspomagające indywidualny proces nauczania. Opisane rozwiązania definiują założenia do projektu systemu, który dla różnych kursów internetowych dla tego samego użytkownika może określić różne środowiska pracy. Dane są zbierane z wykorzystanie platformy Moodle.

Automatic adaptation of e-learning tools to VLE (Virtual learning environment) users' needs supports teaching/learning process. Adaptation takes place during the process of analysis of data gathered when e-platform user session has been established. Wide range of information must be analyzed. The aim of this paper is to define selected statistic data which, later on, will be treated by analysis algorithms. Collector and Analysator subsystems are introduced. Thanks to gathered data the e-learning system might become more secure and more efficient. The data can reorganize many independent VLE for one user which will lead to more individual teaching/learning. Proposed solutions define fundamental assumption of the project which uses Moodle platform an e-learning VLE.

W pracy przedstawiono rozproszone środowiska e-learningo-we. Dokonano porównania właściwości platform rozproszonych i scentralizowanych. Platformy rozproszone mogą o wiele bardziej skutecznie kształtować indywidualny profil nauczania i dostosowywać program nauczania do możliwości oraz potrzeb studentów. Mogą przekształcać się w indywidualne platformy e-learnigu. Środowiska rozproszone najlepiej implementować z wykorzystaniem technologii agentowych. Zaproponowano model warstwowy dla takiego rozwiązania.

Distributed e-learning environments has been presented in this paper. There was made a comparison of properties both distributed and centralized platforms. Distributed platforms can shape an individual learning profile and fit it to student possibilities and needs more effective than centralized systems. They can transform to Individual e-learning Platforms. The best way to implement distributed environments is to use agent technologies. There was proposed a layers model for this solution.

Celem artykułu jest ocena możliwości funkcjonalnych platformy open source Moodle w zakresie wykonywania adaptowalnych kursów elektronicznych, opracowanych za pomocą narzędzi autorskich dostępnych na platformie. Kursy adaptowalne umożliwiają dostosowanie procesu nauczania do możliwości szkolonego, jego początkowego stanu wiedzy, postępów, preferencji i potrzeb. Kursy takie wpływają na zwiększenie skuteczności procesu szkolenia i są obecnie ważnym kierunkiem rozwoju e-learningu. Artykuł obejmuje porównanie tych możliwości z funkcjonalnością rozwijanej w Instytucie Maszyn Matematycznych technologii TeleEdu™.

The aim of the article is to analyse open source Moodle platform with respect to ability to develop adaptive e-courses, using built-in authoring tools. Adaptive e-courses just adapt learning process to students' abilities, their starting level of competence, progress in studies, their needs and expectations. Thus they increase the effectiveness of learning. Adaptive courses have essential significance in contemporary trends of e-learning. The paper covers also the comparison of Moodle platform with relative abilities of TeleEdu™ - a technology created and developed in Warsaw Institute of Mathematical Machines.

The main field of our works contain aspects of data base systems and problems closely connected with them. Autor z badań prowadzonych w Instytucie dotyczących zagadnień elektrodynamiki i metod numerycznych wywodzi ewolucję zainteresowań badawczych w kierunku problematyki związanej z bazami danych. Na podstawie krótkiego rysu historycznego przedstawione zostały dwa ważne zagadnienia dotyczące migracji danych oraz budowy platformy do nauczania na odległość. W pierwszym z rozważanych zadań zwrócono uwagę na różnice pomiędzy konwersją schematów a mapowaniem schematów. Wskazany został język XML jako uniwersalny, samoopisujący się format dla celów wymiany danych między różnymi systemami zarządzania bazą danych. Wskazano na jego rolę w przypadku integracji danych pochodzących ze źródeł niehomogenicznych na przykład dla potrzeb hurtowni danych. Główną część wywodu stanowi opis opracowanego algorytmu do automatycznej konwersji zawartości pliku XML do znormalizowanego schematu relacyjnego. Pokazany został jego schemat blokowy oraz opis działania. Opracowano procedury pracujące po stronie dwóch najbardziej rozpowszechnionych serwerów danych Oracle i MS SQL Server. W części poświęconej technicznym zagadnieniom związanym z nauczaniem na odległość przedstawiono zintegrowany system zbudowany na platformie Oracle. Opisane zostały części wchodzące w skład tej aplikacji: oprogramowanie do automatycznej generacji i sprawdzania testów, system dystrybucji materiałów dydaktycznych oraz system grupowego zarządzania rolami i obiektami użytkowników. Jądrem systemu jest generator testów pełniący oprócz roli samodzielnej aplikacji, rolę narzędzia sterującego dystrybucją materiałów w części zarządzania dostępnością materiałów dydaktycznych. Dla testu wykonane zostały dwie końcówki klienta z zastosowaniem narzędzi deweloperskich Oracle oraz w technologii PHP. W pozostałych częściach platformy klienty opracowano jedynie w PHP. Trwają prace nad zastosowaniem środowiska .NET dla potrzeb tej aplikacji. W końcowej części pracy przedstawiono w skrócie kolejne problemy badawcze znajdujące się w fazie wstępnej. Dotyczy to zagadnień związanych z wnioskowaniem i zgłębianiem danych w wielowymiarowych strukturach opisywanych przy pomocy złożonych hierarchicznych wymiarów oraz wyszukiwania w dużych obiektach binarnych przechowywanych w bazie danych. Prace te mogą wskazywać kierunek rozwoju prowadzonych w Instytucie badań.

The e-content development methods are the most important task that has to be solved for electronic lessons implementation. The second important work that has to be done concerns data files distribution for eligible users of an Internet education resources database. These demanding solutions are integrating different levels and different technologies of programming.
