Opinions of Polish students on the need for the transition to distance learning when facing the global pandemic COVID-19

Purpose: The objective of the article is to present the condition of Polish universities and trends occurring in distance learning and e-learning. The results of the research conducted among students of Polish universities (N-2226), who were forced to the transition to distance learning from day to day, are presented in the article. Using well-known statistical measures, the correlations between the selected factors have been indicated. The research results on the correlations between the following variables have been presented – the opinions on the need for the transition to distance learning during the pandemic and: • gender, • age, • taking up employment in addition to studying, • an opportunity to study in a separate room. Design/methodology/approach: For the research purposes, a well-known Internet Survey Panel was utilized, which was used to create and manage the surveys as well as to collect the results. The bivariate analysis was used, the objective of which was to determine the empirical relationship between the selected variables. In the research, among others, the following were used: Chi-Square Test for Independence, Phi-Square Test for Independence, Spearman’s rank correlation test. For the data with the responses specified on the ordinal scale in the correlation analysis, Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient was used. Findings: The change in the teaching method which has been experienced in relation to the global pandemic may prove to be a breakthrough and give rise to changes in student education so as to educate the future staff of Industry 4.0 using distance learning. Increasing students’ involvement in the learning process may help them acquire competences useful in their professional life more effectively.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań przeprowadzonych wśród nauczycieli akademickich prowadzących zajęcia w formie kształcenia na odległość z wykorzystaniem platformy e-Learningowej KAAFM. Nauczyciele zostali poproszeni o udzielenie odpowiedzi na pytania usystematyzowane w pięciu obszarach: obsługi platformy, działania platformy, tworzenia kursów, wsparcia użytkowników oraz opinii o kształceniu na odległość. Dodatkowo zostali zapytani, czy prowadzą zajęcia ze studentami kierunków inżynierskich, czy też innych rodzajów studiów. W wyniku przeprowadzonych badań stwierdzono, że kształcenie na odległość postrzegane jest jako wygodna i efektywna forma kształcenia. Badania pozwoliły także ustalić w jaki sposób postrzegane są narzędzia do tworzenia i prowadzenia zajęć dydaktycznych na odległość. Dzięki temu możliwe będzie wprowadzenie zmian na platformie KAAFM.

The article presents the results of a survey among teachers having classes in the form of distance education using elearning platform of Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University. Teachers were asked to answer questions. The questions were structured in five areas. The first is the service area of the platform. The second area concerned the platform. Questions from the third area concerned the creation of courses. The fourth area was associated with the system user support. The last fifth area concerned reviews for distance education. In addition, they were asked whether they have classes with students of engineering or other types of studies. For the analysis they were taken only the responses of teachers having classes at the college of engineering. The results showed that distance education is seen as a convenient and effective form of training. The study also made it possible to determine how they are perceived tools to create e-learning courses. The results show also opinion on tool to teach classes at a distance. This will make changes on the platform of the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University.

W artykule przedstawione zostaną zagadnienia związane z kształceniem na odległość, na przykładzie doświadczeń Krakowskiej Akademii im. Andrzeja Frycza Modrzewskiego. Przytoczone zostaną podstawy prawne oraz przepisy warunkujące wdrożenie blended – learningu w uczelni. Ukazane zostaną zagadnienia związane z Krajowymi Ramami Kwalifikacji w aspekcie funkcjonowania kształcenia na odległość. Przedstawione zostaną opinie studentów dotyczące zajęć prowadzonych w formie blended-learning.

In order to implement distance education several issues need to be considered. The most important of them are the choice of the e – learning platform, and following the requirements imposed by appropriate regulations. All the people that concern the distance learning must remember that the most important in the education are students. Prepared teaching materials for them should support to obtain qualifications relevant to a particular field of study. Classes with the use of elearning platforms are increasingly seen not only as more attractive than traditional classes because of the use of multimedia solutions, but also for the effective form of education. The article presents the issues related to distance education, for example the experience of Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University. The article presents the legal basis for the implementation of blended-learning at the university. Issues related to National Qualifications Framework for the functioning of distance learning are also shown. This article presents the feedback from students about classes in the form of blended learning.

The increase in popularity of university eLearning platforms, supporting traditional methods of education, as well as new communication tools development, make the security issues of information stored in these systems becoming increasingly important. The general discussion on security issues in e-learning was inaugurated by M. K. Littman [1] already in 1996. This document has been prepared to identify data security threats existing in a very specific group of computer systems - university eLearning platforms. As a result of the security incidents database analysis and user behavior described in the literature, thirteen security areas have been defined. Activities undertaken in particular areas, described during the data analysis, have a significant impact on at least one of three basic elements of information security.
