Assessment of the level of static and dynamic balance in healthy people, practicing selected Latin American dances

Purpose: The balance, known as the ability to independently maintain the body in a certain position and return to the starting position, can be divided into static and dynamic balances. Social Latin American dances (salsa, bachata) require dancers to do a characteristic figure, however, they are not trained as intensively as dancing sports. The aim of the study was to assess the static and dynamic balances of dancers, who are regularly dancing those selected Latin American dances, by comparison with those who do not. Methods: The study was conducted among 34 dancers from a Krakow Dancing School and, 37 students of the Jagiellonian University, aged 21–35. A SIGMA balance platform was used to measure static and, the Y-Balance Test platform to assess dynamic balance. The Student’s T-test, MannWhitney U-test and Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient were used in statistical analysis. Results: There were neither significant differences between right and left lower limbs of dancers, nor between values of tilts on the YBT platform in both investigated groups. Non-dancers, however, showed a slightly higher positive correlation between the deviations in the sagittal and frontal planes and the surface area, as well as between the path length and the surface area on the SIGMA platform when compared to dancers. Conclusions: The level of dynamic and static balances of dancing people is similar, when compared to non-dancers. The influence of practicing Latin American dances on the sense of balance require further studies.

Celem pracy było określenie, czy protezowanie zewnętrzne w postaci wkładek silikonowych do biustonosza wpływa na równowagę dynamiczną kobiet po mastektomii jednostronnej. Grupę badaną stanowiło 30 kobiet po jednostronnej mastektomii całkowitej w wieku od 40 do 73 lat (średnio: 57,5±8,4), średni czas od zabiegu operacyjnego wynosił 6,5±5,0 lat. Do zbadania równowagi dynamicznej posłużono się platformą balansową „Libra” firmy Easytech. Wyniki: Z przeprowadzonych badań wynika, że bez względu na czas, jaki upłynął od mastektomii, noszenie protezy piersi nie ma wpływu na równowagę dynamiczną kobiet po tym zabiegu, podczas gdy wiek pacjentek oraz ograniczenie ruchomości obręczy barkowej mają istotne znaczenie dla reakcji równoważnych.

The aim of the study was to determine whether external prosthesis in the form of bra silicone inserts affects the dynamic balance in women after unilateral mastectomy. The study group was 30 women after unilateral mastectomy, in age between 40-73 years (average age was 57,5±8,4), average time from operation was 6,5±5,0 y. To explore the dynamic balance, the balance platform „Libra” (Easytech) was used. Results: the study showed that the period of wearing of the prosthesis had no impact on dynamic balance in women after mastectomy, whereas patients` age and limited mobility of the shoulder girdle was of considerable significance to balance responses.

The use of the equal fields method allows you to obtain the necessary information regarding the influence of FACTS devices on the improvement of stability. The calculations and established characteristics clearly confirm the influence of resistance on the change of the work of transmission systems. This also relates to specified permissible times of a 3-phase short circuit. In this article the influence of the Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) on the improvement of dynamic balance of a transmission system is presented.

Zastosowanie metody równych pól pozwala na otrzymanie niezbędnych informacji dotyczących wpływu urządzeń FACTS na poprawę stabilności. Obliczenia oraz wyznaczone charakterystyki wyraźne potwierdzają wpływ rezystancji na zmianę pracy układów przesyłowych. Dotyczy to również wyznaczonych dopuszczalnych czasów trwania zwarcia 3 - fazowego. W artykule przedstawiono wpływ Statycznego Synchronicznego Szeregowego Kompensatora (SSSC) na poprawę równowagi dynamicznej układu przesyłowego.

The modeling of the electrical line has to take place with a complete representation of parameters because it ensures more precision when determining dynamic properties of transmission systems. In this article the method of equal fields used to evaluate the dynamic balance of industrial transmission system represented by means of resistance and reactance with a connected FACTS system type UPFC is presented.

W artykule przedstawiono zastosowanie metody równych pól do oceny równowagi dynamicznej układu przesyłowego odwzorowanego rezystancją i reaktancją z przyłączonym układem FACTS typu UPFC.
