This paper typically applied the concept of ranking by inspection using the dwell time of ships in five African ports to evaluate the variations in ship turnaround time and relative efficiency level. This is to identify the active factors that cause port congestion in African ports. The results provided some explanations on the consequences arising from these on notable African logistics and supply chain networks. The findings reveal that the bane of congestion in African ports emanates entirely from either planning, regulation, capacity, efficiency or a combination of these. The regression analysis with IBM SPSS v20 reveals that there is a significant relationship between cargo throughput and other port performance indicators in Nigeria for the study period (2005 - 2014). More so, the t-test reveals that there is a significant relationship between cargo throughput and berth occupancy rate which is significantly indicative of port congestion. This paper therefore recommends that African ports should enhance their regulatory mechanisms, and also improve capacity and efficiency level in order to shoulder the ever increasing challenges of port congestion in years ahead.

In public transport, especially in bus services, the number of passengers decreases, largely because individual car transport are able to provide a higher quality passenger transport. Passengers choose the mode of transport based on the shortest travel time. This is why the share of individual car transport is growing, especially in suburban bus transport, but also in urban transport in smaller towns. Given that the travel time is more important for a traveler compared to the cost of transport, the aim of this contribution is to verify the hypothesis that shorter stopping times are needed for vehicles with a smaller capacity. When verifying the hypothesis, the authors will also address the issue of the impact of the number of vehicle doors and total capacity on the total travel time of the passenger.

Create as part of the concession agreement signed by the Container Terminal 28 June 2004 with the port of Douala international terminal (DIT) Company aims to manage, operate and develop the Port’s container handling activity in Douala. This paper investigates the main factors explaining long container dwell times in Douala Port. Using original and extensive data on container imports in the Port of Douala, it seeks to provide a basic understanding of why containers stay on average more than two weeks in port space while long dwell times are widely recognized as a critical hindrance to economic development. It also demonstrates the interrelationships that exist between logistics performance of consignees, operational performance of port operators and efficiency of customs clearance operations. Shipment level analysis is used to identify the main determinants of long cargo dwell times and the impact of shipment characteristics such as fiscal regime, density of value, bulking and packaging type, last port of call, and region of origin or commodity group on cargo dwell time in ports is tested. External factors, such as performance of clearing and forwarding agents, shippers and shipping line strategies, also play an important role in the determination of long dwell times.

The wideband coherent pulse radar provides high resolution image of the target. A model of this image is composed of the complex envelope superposition of signals diffracted by the point scatterers. The values of complex envelope are distributed over the radar image coordinate plane in accordance with the point scatterer's positions and their reflection coefficients. The radar image model is combining of the range and Doppler profiles. The parameters of the target point scatterers are processed using one dimensional data extracted from the complex discrete Fourier transform of the radar image. The proposed parametric system identification method performs estimation of signal model parameters for the short dwell time and extrapolation of the radar data outside this time. Also the procedure of the ISAR imaging based on the proposed algorithm is introduced. The reducing smeared Doppler shifts and improving image resolution are achieved as a result.

Strong electric fields have found increased usage in technological processes. In this article the wire explosion in the liquid in order to obtain metal colloid will be described. Presented method is very effective and inexpensive when it comes to developing colloids of silver. The properties of the colloid depend to a great extent on the degree of solid phase break up. The metal particles created in our experiment belong to hydrophobic colloids. The size of the metal particles in the water is controlled by dosing voltage, current and capacity of the generator. The size of silver particles was observed sedimentation with Turbiscane instrument. It must be mentioned, that the environment of the silver colloid is crucial. Those particles can be used in nano-technology: Raman spectroscopy-SERS effect, Sol-Gel technology. The silver colloid can be used to purify water.
