A horizontal combustion tube for studies of flame acceleration in fine aluminium dust-air mixtures was constructed. The tube was used to investigate combustion transition from deflagratation to detonation, under conditions of weak ignition. The 12 m long section of the test tube was equipped with a pneumatic dispersion system providing an uniform dust suspension. The dispersion system consists of twenty independent dispersion units positioned uniformly along the tube. The initial intensity of dispersion-induced turbulence was measured and the quality of dust clouds suspension in the test tube was examined. Aluminium dust, spherical in shape (6 um and 16 um in diameter), was used for tests. Experimental results demonstrated steep increase in flame propagation velocity through the tube lenght of 9 m from the ignition plate, approaching at that distance a maximum value of about 200 m/s. Then at the segment between 9 m and 12 m from the ignition plate, flame propagates with the established maximum propagation velocity. The pressure profiles measured around around the tube wall at 12 m from the igniter are nonuniform, which indicates three dimensional structure of detonation.
