Prace badawcze niemieckiego Urzędu Federalnego Badań Naukowych ds. Materiałów zidentyfikowały pochodzenie szkodliwych lotnych substancji organicznych (VOC), a w szczególności trudno lotnych substancji organicznych (SVOC), wydzielających się podczas drukowania i kopiowania na urządzeniach laserowych, także na papierach makulaturowych. Wnioski z tych badań są następujące: o Źródłem emitowanych substancji są zawarte w papierach makulaturowych pozostałości farb offsetowych; o Dzięki odbarwianiu makulatury wielkość emisji zostaje wyraźnie zmniejszona, gdyż już prosta flotacja prowadzi do jej redukcji o blisko 50%; o Przez staranny dobór drukarki laserowej można znacznie ograniczyć emisje: TVOC - do 25 razy, a TSVOC -do 7 razy. Wpływ typu drukarek może być tym samym większy, niż zastosowanego papieru; o Przy nakładzie 100 stron dziennie wszystkie badane papiery spełniały wymagania schematu oceny AgBB dla materiałów budowlanych. Można więc założyć, że zadrukowanie papierów makulaturowych nie stwarza zagrożenia zdrowotnego.

The research works of the German Federal Office of the Scientific Research Works on the Materials have identified the origin of the volatile organic compounds (VOC) and particularly the slowly volatile organic compounds (SVOC) arising during printing and copying on the laser equipment. Besides this the health tests have been carried out on the health aspects of these compounds from the reclaimed papers. The conclusions are as follows: o The source of the VOC and SVOC emitted during printing on the papers made from the secondary fibres are the offset inks left in these papers. o Waste paper deinking considerably decreases the emissions, since simple floatation alone brings about the 50% their reduction. o By careful selection of the laser printer the emissions can be considerably reduced: by multiple 25 for TVOC and by multiple 7 in case of TSVOC. The impact of these printers type can be thus greater than of the paper's origin. o At an edition amounting to 100 pages daily alt the tested papers fulfilled the requirements of an evaluation pattern AgBB for the building materials. Thus it can be assumed, that printing on the deinked secondary fibre based papers does not create a health risk.
