The aim of this research is to assess the present status and effects of the illicit trade of drug substances in maritime transport. Initially, the concept of lawful cargo is explored, followed by the analysis of illegal cargo. Finally, it is concluded that the cargo's legality is subject to each jurisdiction's laws and regulations along with the fulfilment of required processes, such as paying the required taxes, maintaining proper licenses, or keeping the necessary documentation. The analysis continues with the assessment of the effects of drug substances when found on board a ship. Drug substances may be deemed legal under certain circumstances but, on most occasions, are the common cargo for illicit trafficking. The outcome of locating such unlawful transportation is the vessel's arrest in most cases. The ship-owning company is deemed liable unless proven innocent or due diligence while operating the ship. The crew is also liable and faces both civil and criminal charges. The arrest leads to the ship's layoff under the supervision of competent authorities until the vessel is released by court order after the proof of the innocence of the shipping company and crew, the insurance coverage of claims or the ship's acquisition by a new owner. The methodology utilised for this research is based on the legal doctrine assessing legislation and relevant case law, such as the case of Atlasnavios, as the primary source of data and exploring the legal intricacies and gaps of the issue in question.

Celem pracy jest omówienie działań Policji w odniesieniu do zwalczania przestępczości narkotykowej wśród młodzieży. Scharakteryzowano miejsce, funkcje i zadania ustawowe Policji oraz miejsce tej formacji w systemie bezpieczeństwa i porządku publicznego. W kolejnej części pracy odniesiono się do wyjaśnienia podstawowych pojęć na płaszczyźnie analizowanego zagadnienia oraz ukazano uprawnienia i procedury stosowane przez Policję w postępowaniu z nieletnimi na przykładzie wybranych elementów.

The aim of the study is to show the role of drugs as a factor underlying the emergence of social pathology among adolescents, which is drug addiction. Initially, the genesis of the concept of social pathology was presented based on the literature on the subject. Then, the types of psychoactive substances were characterized, their effects on the mental and physical spheres, and their place in the life of contemporary youth. In the work, as part of the research method, mainly problem and comparative analysis was used in the field of subject literature and thematic monographs.

The developed chromatographic methods (HPLC and UHPLC/UV, DAD, FL, ED, MS-MS and GC-MS), for the determination of drugs from different therapeutic groups in body fluids, have been presented. Drugs were determined alongside their metabolites, in different concentration ranges, usually after a removal of the interferences from the biological material matrix. Extraction procedures, like LLE, SPE, MEPS, SALLE, USAEME, have been developed for the separation of analytes. Methods for the determination of endogenous compounds: L-camitine, L-arginine and their metabolites, dopamine and its metabolites, and other compounds resulting from their metabolism have also been developed. Cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry methods for the determination of electrochemically active drugs have also been presented. Such methods can be used to verify the results of chromatographic determinations. This article presents the results of the research included in 35 publications from the JCR list.

Stosowanie używek na stanowiskach pracy przez pracowników ma istotny wpływ na bezpieczeństwo pracy. Ich nadużywanie uznawane jest za poważne zagrożenie dla życia, zdrowia i bezpieczeństwa. Celem badań było określenie parametrów ilościowych, dotyczących spożywania używek wśród pracowników budowlanych pracujących na stanowiskach pracy z wykorzystaniem rusztowań budowlanych. Dane do analizy pozyskano z trzech różnych źródeł: dane statystyczne, dokumentacja powypadkowa osób poszkodowanych w wypadkach przy pracy na rusztowaniach oraz dane ankietowe pozyskane w ramach projektu badawczego.

The use of drugs at the workplace by employees has a significant impact on safety. Their abuse is considered a serious threat to life, health and safety. The aim of the research was to determine the quantitative parameters related to the consumption of drugs among construction workers at workplaces with the use of scaffolding. The data for the analysis was obtained from three different sources: statistical data, post-accident documentation of people injured in accidents at work on scaffolding and survey data obtained as part of the research project.

Spożywanie alkoholu w miejscu pracy jest surowo zabronione. Niestety zakaz ten jest często łamany. Nietrzeźwość pracownika może stworzyć zagrożenie, a w najgorszym przypadku może również doprowadzić do trwałego kalectwa, a nawet śmierci. Celem prowadzonych badań było zidentyfikowanie głównych problemów związanych z nadużywaniem i ze spożywaniem alkoholu przez pracowników budowlanych w trakcie pracy. Dane do analizy pozyskano z dokumentacji powypadkowej (analizie poddano 219 osób poszkodowanych w wypadkach przy pracy z wykorzystaniem rusztowań budowlanych) oraz ankiet zebranych podczas realizowanego projektu naukowo-badawczego „Model oceny ryzyka wystąpienia katastrof budowlanych, wypadków i zdarzeń niebezpiecznych na stanowiskach pracy z wykorzystaniem rusztowań budowlanych” (573 badań ankietowych osób pracujących na rusztowaniach, na ankietowanych terenach budowy).

The consumption of alcohol in the workplace is strictly prohibited. Unfortunately, this interdict is often broken. Alcohol intoxication of an employee could lead to a threat, and in the worst case could also lead to permanent disability or even death. The aim of the research was to identify the main problems associated with heavy drinking of alcohol and consumption at work among construction workers. Data for the analysis were obtained from post-accident protocols (analyzed 219 people injured in accidents at work involving scaffolding) and surveys collected during the research project “Model of the assessment of risk of the occurrence of building catastrophes, accidents and dangerous events at workplaces with the use of scaffolding” (573 surveys of people working in the construction scaffolding of respondents).

Do gabinetów optometrystów często trafiają pacjenci stosujący farmakoterapię, przy czym każdy przyjmowany lek, nawet według zaleceń lekarza, może odpowiadać za zmiany organiczne bądź czynnościowe w narządzie wzroku. Celem pracy dyplomowej było opracowanie modelu wywiadu optometrycznego u osób przyjmujących przewlekle leki oraz sprawdzenie tego schematu postępowania podczas wykonywanych badań optometrycznych. Uczestnikami badań było 50 osób w wieku od 22 do 57 lat. Wykonano im badanie ostrości wzroku, refrakcji, ruchów oczu, źrenic, widzenia stereoskopowego, akomodacji, dodatku do bliży, ustalano wielkość zeza lub forii metodą obiektywną. Wykazano potrzebę rozbudowania wywiadu optometrycznego z osobą badaną o pełne informacje na temat stosowanej terapii lekowej, szczegółowe dopytanie o występowanie problemów związanych z układem wzrokowym oraz wykonanie odpowiednich testów w trakcie badania optometrycznego. Wykazano potrzebę nawiązania współpracy między optometrystą a innymi specjalistami, takimi jak okulista czy neurolog, celem uzupełnienia badania wzroku oraz zweryfikowania przyjmowanej dawki leku w odniesieniu do występujących działań niepożądanych. Ważnym czynnikiem profilaktycznym jest edukacja pacjenta w kierunku regularnych badań wzroku, a nie tylko w momencie pojawienia się symptomów pogorszenia widzenia.

Patients who take medications often come to the optometrists’ offices. All drugs, even taken according to prescriptions of physician, can cause functional or organic modifications to the organ of vision. The goal of the thesis was to make a model of optometric interview and checking this procedure during eye examination. About 50 people between the age of 22 and 57 years old took part in the study. The following parameters were examined: visual acuity, eye refraction, eye movements, pupils, stereopsis, accommodation, near addition, tropia or phoria. Studies have shown that the optometrist: should carry out a detailed medical history about the medicines that are taken by the patient, should know the history of the patient’s ocular symptoms, should perform the appropriate optometric tests. There was a proven need of cooperation between optometrists and other experts such as ophthalmologists or neurologists in order to complete examination of eyesight and verify taken dose of medication in reference to occured side effects. An important preventive factor is the patient’s education for regular eye examinations, not only when the vision is getting worse.

W ciągu ostatnich dwudziestu lat znaczna część aktywności społecznych przeniosła się do Internetu. Spowodowało to głębokie przemiany społeczne i polityczne. Jednakże zdecydowana większość populacji nie zdaje sobie sprawy z tego, że ma dostęp jedynie do niewielkiej części informacji znajdujących się w cyberprzestrzeni. Zdecydowana ich większość znajduje się w tak zwanym ukrytym Internecie. Jego część stanowi z kolei darknet (ciemna sieć), który pozwala na zachowanie niemal zupełnej anonimowości użytkownika. Atrybuty tej części sieci powodują, że jest ona atrakcyjna dla bardzo ceniących sobie prywatność. Jednakże w tej grupie część osób to przestępcy, ekstremiści i terroryści. Powoduje to nowe wyznania dla służb odpowiedzialnych za bezpieczeństwo publiczne. Jednocześnie zagadnienia związane z darknetem mogą stanowić podmiot badań nauk społecznych.

Over the past twenty years, a significant proportion of social activity has moved to the Internet. It caused profound social and political changes. However, the vast majority of the population is unaware that they only have access to a small part of the information in the cyberspace. The vast majority of them are on the so-called hidden Internet. Part of it, in turn, is the darknet, which allows almost complete anonymity of the user. The attributes of this part of the web makes it attractive to those who value privacy highly. However, in this group, some people are criminals, extremists and terrorists. This causes new confessions for the services responsible for public safety. At the same time, darknet issues can be a subject of social science research.

Cathinone is the major alkaloid found in the Catha edulis plant. The chemical structure of the cathinone is similar to amphetamine, and the difference in their structure is the presence of the ketone group in the beta side chain position. Synthetic derivatives belong to the novel group of psychoactive substances called “legal highs” or designer drugs. Synthetic cathinones are formed by modifications of the cathinone molecule consisting in the attachment of various substituents to the benzene ring and side chain and the use of a nitrogen atom to build the pyrrolidine ring. On this basis, these relationships can be divided into four main groups: N-alkylated, N-pyrrolidinyl, 3,4-methylenedioxy-N-alkylated and 3,4- methylenedioxy-N-pyrrolidinyl derivatives [1-2]. The simplicity of the synthesis and the availability of substrates favors the continuous process of modifying the cathinone derivatives covered by legal control. Therefore, continuous improvement of cathinone detection methods is extremely important for forensic chemistry. Cathinones easily penetrate the blood-brain barrier, inhibiting the uptake of neurotransmitters, including dopamine, serotonin or noradrenaline, and increase their concentration in the synaptic cleft. This leads to increased monoaminergic transmission in the central as well as in the peripheral nervous system, which entails a number of adverse effects [3]. In this article we described the pharmacokinetics, postulated neurochemical mechanisms and pharmacological and toxicological effects of cathinones. The current legal status of cathinone derivatives and selected synthesis methods was also discussed. We believe these information contribute improving public health and safety.
