Drugs are one of the greatest threats for social health in the 21st century and crime connected with drugs is the most dynamic segment of organised crime. The military is not free of these threats. Since 2000 there has been observed a clear increase of drug crimes in barracks. This can be seen in the amount of narcotics and psychotropic agents found, the increasing number of offenders committing crimes under the influence of stupefacient’s and signals from commanders and military police about attempts to introduce drugs into military areas. The author discusses the results of research, carried out in all armed forces branches, relating to drug appearance in the military: the reasons and motifs why soldiers reach for them, where they can acquire them and circumstances of drug taking. The conclusion states that forecasting drug threats in the army should be closely connected with the evaluation of the drug addiction increase in the civil environment.
