Autor artykułu przedstawia wybrane zagadnienia dotyczące przekształceń miast dawnych Prus Wschodnich, związane z korektami ich układu komunikacyjnego. Problematyka ta obejmuje kilka zagadnień. Są wśród nich modyfikacje przeprowadzone jeszcze pod koniec XVIII i XIX w., wynikające z likwidacji anachronicznych już wówczas obwarowań i rozwoju miast - zakładaniem nowych dzielnic. Kolejny temat stanowią dokonywane, a czasem tylko planowane próby korekt komunikacji tranzytowej w II poł. XIX i na początku XX w. - wytyczanie obwodnic omijających historyczne centra i pokonujących dotąd nieprzekraczalne bariery topograficzne. Trzeci wątek to dość radykalne korekty układów urbanistycznych starych miast Warmii i Mazur, dokonywane w trakcie odbudowy po zniszczeniach 1945 r. Za wszystkimi tymi działaniami kryje się podstawowe zagadnienie - wpływ wspomnianych przedsięwzięć komunikacyjnych na ochronę lub destrukcję historycznych układów przestrzennych śródmieść położonych w regionie miast.

The aim of this contribution is to discuss selected historical issues of changes in urban layout of historic towns in East Prussia, aiming at their regulation in terms of communication and traffic. Especially, Author focuses his attention on a few key problems, namely: regulations from the turn of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries, resulting in demolition of medieval town walls and expansion of new suburban districts; plans and corrections of street network from ca. 1900, including ring roads and bypasses. Third and the last problem discussed in this essay is related to drammatic alterations and reconfigurations of historic towns infrastructure and urban space in the period after the closure of WWII, when most of East Prussian towns were included in the new province of Poland. All of historical problems in question are connected by the very issue of impact that discussed changes have had on historic urban layouts of towns.

Celem artykułu jest próba określenia, czy rewitalizacja północnego cypla Wyspy Spichrzów w Gdańsku wpisuje się w założenia zrównoważonego rozwoju oraz czy przekształcenia te stanowią odpowiedź na wybraną problematykę śródmiejskich obszarów nadrzecznych. Analizie poddano zagadnienia dotyczące nadrzecznego obszaru śródmiejskiego, problematyki tych terenów nadrzecznych oraz sprecyzowano kryteria umożliwiające kształtowanie zrównoważonego środowiska zbudowanego. Następnie dokonano analizy śródmiejskiej przestrzeni nadrzecznej północnego cypla Wyspy Spichrzów. Otrzymane wyniki stanowią podstawę dla określenia kierunków prowadzonych przekształceń w kontekście zrównoważonego rozwoju.

The aim of the article is an attempt to determine whether the revitalization of the northern headland of Granary Island in Gdańsk fits in with the principles of sustainable development and whether these transformations are a response to the selected issues of downtown riverside areas. The issues related to the downtown riverside area and the issues of these riverside areas were analyzed, and the criteria for shaping a sustainable built environment were specified. Then, the downtown riverside area of the northern headland of Granary Island was analyzed. The obtained results constitute the basis for determining the directions of conducted transformations in the context of sustainable development.

Pojęcie centrum cechuje pluralizm semantyczny, gdyż nawet w dyscyplinie naukowej architektury i urbanistyki znaczenie uzależnione jest od skali ujęcia zagadnienia. Autorka odwołuje się do badań nad definiowaniem centrów i śródmieść z okresu drugiej połowy XX wieku konfrontując je ze współczesnymi teoriami (przestrzenie przepływu) we wszystkich aspektach środowiska miasta.

The notion of the centre is characterised by semantic pluralism, as its meaning is dependent on the scale from which we view a given subject, even in the discipline of architecture and urban planning. The author refers to studies on defining city centres and downtown areas from the period of the second half of the 20th century, confronting them with contemporary theories (space of flows) in all aspects of the urban environment.

The aim of the considerations presented in the article is to determine the developmental directions of the inner urban areas respecting and honouring the cultural heritage of Zielona Gora city. The formation of useful physical form of the urban lifestyle environment is particularly important in the process of urban regeneration. The article presents polemics with the planning documents and raises the issues related to urban green areas and street furniture. The design proposal shows one of the possibilities to bring the improperly developed areas back to the city. Every city is made of people and, therefore, it is essential for these people to have social awareness of individual influence on the shape of urban areas.

Celem przedstawionych rozważań jest ustalenie kierunków rozwoju śródmiejskich obszarów miasta z poszanowaniem dziedzictwa kulturowego na przykładzie Zielonej Góry. Kształtowanie pięknej i użytecznej, fizycznej formy miejskiego środowiska życia jest szczególnie istotne w procesie rewitalizacji miasta. W artykule podjęto polemikę z dokumentami planistycznymi oraz poruszono zagadnienia związane m.in. z zielenią i małą architekturą. Propozycja projektowa przedstawia jedną z możliwości przywrócenia miastu obszarów niewłaściwie zagospodarowanych. Miasto tworzą ludzie i konieczna jest społeczna świadomość osobistego wpływu na kształt miejsc.

The paper deals with questions of the revival of Śródka – the degradated area in the downtown of Poznan. The authors present the results of undertaken research consisting of urban analysis of existing spatial situation and comparison of the ideas and results of the revitalization programme, as well in the aspect of soft and hard elements. The assessement deals withe the spatial problems of the Śródka revitalization.

Artykuł prezentuje autorskie narzędzie badawcze, opracowane w ramach pracy dysertacyjnej realizowanej na Wydziale Architektury Politechniki Poznańskiej. Instrument ten ma na celu delimitację terenów kluczowych dla rozwoju śródmiejskich przestrzeni kulturowych, a następnie określenie możliwych form ich przekształcania. Zintegrowany system przestrzeni kulturowych oraz Kulturowa oferta inwestycyjna uzupełniają warsztat urbanistów o narzędzia wspierające kreację przestrzeni publicznych o wysokim standardzie użytkowym i przestrzenno-społecznej atrakcyjności.

The paper presents research tool developed by the author within the PhD thesis under- taken at Poznan University of Technology. The instrument is designed to demarcate the key areas of the downtown public space and determine the possible ways of their renewal. The Integrated System of Cultural Space and Cultural Investiment Offer are to complete the existing planning tools supporting creation of high standard and social and spatial attractiveness public space.

The cultural space is considered in the paper to be a specific kind of a public space that is distinguished by historical or contemporary cultural values. These values are treated by the author as an important factor of increasing the entire city attractiveness.

Przyjmując, że wartości kulturowe mają duży wpływ na stopień atrakcyjności śródmieść, w niniejszej pracy skupiono uwagę na specyficznej formie ich odnowy określonej terminem - rewitalizacji śródmiejskich przestrzeni kulturowych. Działanie to polega na tworzeniu nowej jakości miasta w oparciu o wykorzystanie istniejących lub potencjalnych walorów kulturowych i kulturotwórczych śródmieścia. Obszar śródmiejski to obszar największych wartości i znaczenia w skali miasta. Można zatem założyć, iż rewitalizacja poprzez integrację przestrzenno-społeczną przestrzeni kulturowych śródmieścia wpłynie dodatnio na poziom atrakcyjności całego miasta. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia autorskie narzędzie planistyczne, służące rewitalizacji obszarów śródmiejskich badanych miast, w oparciu o ZSPK - zintegrowany system przestrzeni kulturowych i KOI- kulturową ofertę inwestycyjną Metoda polega na systemowym ujęciu przestrzeni publicznych śródmieścia - jako ZSPK, w obrębie którego przedsięwzięcia związane z procesami odnowy powinny promować funkcję kulturotwórczą, uzupełnianą przez handel i usługi, zgodnie z wytycznymi sformułowanymi w KOI. Przyjęto, iż tak sformułowane narzędzie planistyczne może być przydatne do sterowania procesami odnowy oraz zwiększania kontroli inwestycji przeprowadzanych w obrębie tkanki śródmiejskiej. Narzędzie to ma również służyć realizowaniu idei miasta zwartego, której wdrażanie jest niezbędne w prowadzeniu prawidłowej polityki przestrzennej.

Assuming that the cultural values have a great impact on the level of downtown attractiveness, the author of the present thesis focuses on a specific form of their renewal, namely downtown cultural space revitalization. In this work, the cultural space is understood as a particular kind of downtown public space, characterised by the presence of both historical and contemporary cultural values, or the existing or potential cultural functions. In order to create the new city quality, one needs to incorporate downtown cultural values. The city downtown is the area of the highest value and importance in the whole city. Its revitalization through the integration of the social and spatial downtown cultural space is to increase the level of the entire city attractiveness. The present thesis focuses on the creation of the planning instrument to be used in the downtown revitalization process. Such an instrument consists of two elements: Integrated System of Cultural Space (ISCP) and Cultural Investiment Offer (CIO). The following method consists in the ISCP system, in which all the activities connected with revitalization should promote the cultural function, alongside with the commerce and services, introduced to the examined area according to the rules defined in the CIO. The author suggests conducting downtown renewal in accordance with the idea of heritage planning and active preservation or activization. The planning instrument fonned in this way will help to direct the revitalization process and increase the investment control in the downtown area.
